The V-2 rocket; first human artifact to enter outer space 1950s

Energy minimization

The V-2 Rocket; Experimental Design Criteria

Areodynamics Hydrodynamics Chemicals Mechanicals Material Heat transfer Manufacturing Aviation .. Considering multiple design criteria leads to a great design
3

Making the point (1) In fact the integration of multiple criteria in product design, Whether in SBD or traditional methods, is the success-key

Integration in Automotive Design

Optimization and Decision-Making for SBD

SBD is already complicated!

SBD would definitly need easier integtation and simpler MOO & MCDM tools to be practical. Focusing on design! not configuring the optimzation

Philosophy SBD is a complicated task.

Simplification;
Identifying the potential algorithms in OR community and adopting them for engineering applications. Numerus algorithms exist, but no awareness!
7

Engineering design optimization in practice

Limited Awareness about OR Algorithms Engineering community often dosent like the mathematical complexity involved in OR

A survey GECCO 2007

8

Engineering design optimization in practice; remarks

Growth of design optimisation publication and comparison with the optimization for mechanical parts

. Numerus algorithms exist, but no awareness!

9

Major remarks
The majority of the companies try to achieve optimized design. 40% support continuous improvement as a way to improvement. Optimization of the design are mostly expert-based optimization approach. Design optimization is time consuming. FEA and CAE followed by classical DOE. The main criterion to optimize a design is cost. Expert-based optimization approaches are less time consuming than GA. Developing novel designs using GAs fails to describe a logical product development process involving DM.

Lack of integrated software tools to support the optimisation process.

10

Software tools In fact the usage of an algorithm is limited unless implemented via a software tools
1. The reactive tabu search, R Battiti, G Tecchiolli, ORSA journal on computing, 1994. Software tool released in 2012 LIONsolver CAE integration
11

Software tools
2. I.N. Egorov. Indirect Optimization Method on the Basis of Self-Organization,1998. Software tool released in 2007 IOSO approach CAE, CAD integration e.g ANSYS, Solidworks

12

Software tools 3. modeFRONTIER includes numerus algorithms

Software tool released in 2007 CAE, CAD integration e.g ANSYS, Solidworks

13

Making a point Once the algorithm is presented via a software tool engineers become more interested. What engineer needs: less mathematics and more integration capabilities with major CAE codes.

14

Human; not a very reliable decision-maker! (2) Buying a house!

Lots of feelings involved

15

Human; the most reliable DM Although human is not ideal for decision-making but still is way more intelligent vs bees, ants, immune and genetic operators.

Involving the human still is preferable

16

Increasing the human reliability; visualization

17

Visualization for MCDM

MCDM INTEGRATED WITH MECHANICAL MODELING OF DRAPING FOR MATERIAL SELECTION OF TEXTILE COMPOSITES
18

Interactive methods; involving human

Evaluating the beauty is possible just with human interaction Just like my recent work; optimal design of curve and surfaces

19

NIMBUS methods

Limited integration & complication

20

RSO and intelligent optimization for interactive decision-making

learning while optimizing; (R Battiti, 2010, 2012) The human inteligence is integrated via advanced Visualization tools
