Anointing of the Sick

Please notify us (355.1292) as early as possible for the Anointing of the Sick, the sacrament intended for the seriously ill or dying. It is Our Lords special presence and companionship in serious time of need. Anointing may take place in the home, at the hospital or elsewhere and as often as once a month. If someone should die without anointing, remember that the desire to receive is sufficient and the Lord cares!

Sacraments of Reconciliation and first Eucharist

Preparation for children who have attained the age of reason (usually during 2nd grade) is arranged either through the Office of Religious Education or St. Rita Elementary School.

If You Should Experience the Loss of a Loved One

Please call us at 355.1292 If you feel you will be in need, or your loved one has passed, we will assist in making arrangements with your chosen funeral directors; refer you to our liturgy and music directors; and offer you helpful guidelines and a book that will aid in the selection of readings for the Mass or Memorial Service. Areas we can help you with prior to the passing may help in the planning of funeral services. We know that this can be a tough time and we want you to know that your parish is there for you. PLEASE UNDERSTAND we only have one resident priest, sometimes arrangements for another priest may be needed.

Sacrament of Matrimony
Contact the Parish Office upon engagement; at least six months is needed for preparation of this joyous sacrament!

Sacrament of Confirmation

A two-year program for freshman/sophomore age teens. Apply through the Office of Religious Education.

NOTE: Adult applicants for the sacraments should contact the Parish Office.

PASTORS CORNER
Dear Parishioners,
This Sundays Gospel passage from John is one of the most glorious of post-resurrection accounts. It is the one in which Jesus appears on the shore and advises the disciples in their boat to cast their nets to the right side where they will make such a catch that will nearly break the nets for such abundance*. Then Jesus invites them to bring some of their fish over to have breakfast together. Now stop right there. First of all, this is a post-resurrection account by John (self-described as the disciple whom Jesus loved), and like other such accounts it is meant to convey that Jesus is truly resurrected in a human, albeit, glorified bodyhe is eating and drinking with them. Later, St. Paul will emphasize in his teaching, so will we! It strikes me that, like the overabundance of fish, this is almost more that we can handle or grasp. Like Jesus, we will eat and drink after our resurrection? What? After we rise from the dead we will have bodies and eat and drink? But wait! If you order now, well double your order! Yes, there is more. There is eternal life. These past days of the Easter season I have been exploring with you what it means to live the risen life. Jesus words to his disciples that they should bring part of their own catch of fish to share at a morning meal holds an important insight into living the risen life of faith, hope, and lovesimply that we bring our very selves to the banquet and what we have to offer. A good way to think about it is, well, you know how someone might invite us for a coffee or to meet for lunch? Is this not really a desire to be present to each other and to celebrate relationship? Great good can overflow from such a meeting: a charitable nonprofit might be planned out on a napkinor, more powerfullya person feeling terribly alone might be relieved on his or her loneliness. Beyond providing a testimony of Jesus having truly risen from the dead, then, todays gospel account from John is a revelation of Jesus kingdom come and his Church begun. We know that his sharing a meal with his disciples is both a powerfully redeeming presence and a signal that he will multiply our good works to the point of nets breaking. What a wonderful advance towards Pentecost! Msgr. Richard (*If you miss the stewardship implication here, color yourself a tough study in discipleship.)

Year of FaithApril 2013

Faith enabled the disciples to form the first community, united by the apostles' teaching, common prayer, celebration of the Eucharist, and holding all possessions in common to provide for the needs of all. In this Year of Faith, April encompasses Easter's Fifty Days, during which Resurrection joy should overflow the hearts of believers to refresh a parched and weary world with the revivifying waters of faith, hope, and charity. All month, at every Mass, we read Luke's Acts of the Apostles, charting the young church's Spirit-led journey, sometimes peaceful, sometimes persecuted, beset by enemies without and turmoil within. But this young church is always moving onward, from Jerusalem to Rome; and outward, from an inherited Judaism to the Gentile world.

TODAYS READINGS
First ReadingGod exalted Jesus as leader and savior (Acts 5:27-32, 40b-41). PsalmI will praise you, Lord, for you have rescued me (Psalm 30). Second ReadingTo the Lamb be blessing and honor, glory and might (Revelation 5:11-14). GospelWhen the disciples came ashore, they saw a charcoal fire with fish on it and bread
(John 21:1-19 [1-14]).

April 2013 Child Abuse Prevention Month

Please pray to the Lord That the Easter promise of new life will fill the hearts and minds of those who suffer in body, mind or spirit. For all who have suffered child abuse at the hands of someone they trusted, that they may feel Gods healing love surrounding them. For those who have been harmed by child abuse, that Gods grace will ease their suffering and heal their hearts helping them to trust again. For all those caring adults who have been educated to protect children and young people from child sexual abuse; may God bless their efforts in being the ears, eyes and voice of children and young people. For those who have survived child abuse, that they feel the grace and mercy of Gods love in full measure. For all those whose lives have been broken by abuse, that they may be restored to wholeness of the body, mind and spirit. Prayer for Pastoral Council Nominees

Come, O Holy Spirit of the living God, and show us your way. Guide the discernment process of those who are called to the ministry of leadership in our parish. Give them zeal and holy courage to respond generously to your invitation. Grant them the wisdom to know their gifts. Call them and all of us to a willingness to put our gifts at the service of your people. And grant your grace to all in our faith community to live out the mission of Jesus. We pray this in his name, who with you and the sustaining Father are one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Together in Mission (TIM)We Need Your Help!

P-7

Because of a glitch at the Archdiocesan TIM Office, St. Rita parishioners never received our direct mail pledge/ reminder cards this year. That means we need YOU to take the initiative to take a generic TIM envelope from the Vestibule, fill out the donation form, enclose your check or include your credit card number, seal the envelope, then either drop it in the Sunday Offering basket or bring it to the Parish Office. On our recent TIM Commitment Sunday, we heard a very inspiring story from Dave Chambers about his personal experience as an educator and seeing the help that TIM brings to the poorest of the poor parishes and schools of our Archdiocese. Your donation goes DIRECTLY to the financially needy parishes and schools, not for any other purpose. We are so blessed here at St. Rita to have parishioners who can and do contribute to our parish budget expensesbut many poor parishes have very generous parishioners who give all they can, and yet it is not enough. Can you help? Will you help? If every family in our parish, who has not yet donated, were to give $25or more, if you can afford itwe would meet our goal! To many of us, $25 is a pizza delivery; a bottle or two of wine; a few trips to Starbucks; a fast food family snack after practiceswhat can you think of that can deliver as much bang for your buck as donating to help a needy parish or school? Thank you for your generous response to this appeal!
