1) How to attract brilliant engineers to the industry? Answer: According to the case, today software industry is lucrative job as compared to the industries like EAIL. The major reasons behind this change are flexible working hours and higher pay packages. It is a major task for company like EAIL to attract brilliant engineers. This objective can be achieved via following steps: 1) Challenging work: Today majority of young and brilliant engineers want to do more challenging work. Company should try and give them challenging work so that they achieve maximum job satisfaction level. 2) Higher responsibilities: Today hierarchical structure of company is becoming flat. So, if a young and new engineer is brilliant in his/her work then he/she should be awarded with higher responsibilities. This will boost up the moral confidence of engineer. 3) Pay packages: Pay packages should be lucrative. This plays the most important role in motivating an employee. 4) Other related packages: Company should provide other facilities like medical insurance, bonus, incentives etc. 5) Training: This plays an important role from the point of view of employee. Today new technologies are coming up. It is important to keep pace with these technologies. If a company provides an opportunity to continuously upgrade skills then an engineer will be attracted towards it considering the future perspective. 6) Healthy work environment: No one would to like in a company which has negative atmosphere. And under a person who is demotivated. Hence, motivation plays an important role in an organization. Companies like EAIL should make sure that their workforce is motivated.

2) How to keep the engineers motivated to their job? Answer: Motivation comes from a Latin word called MOVE. It is an inner state which energizes, activates or move and that directs or channels behavior towards goals. Motivation is performed by manager in order to induce its subordinates to perform a task in a manner which satisfies according to companys need. Motivation of an employee can be performed in following ways: 1) Stick and carrot approach: According to this approach the best way to motivate employees is to keep a reward in front of them. This will influence the internal environment of company greatly. In this approach reward is most important t influence in terms of motivation. Any employee performing his/her job excellently should be rewarded. The person should be rewarded and his/her achievements should be celebrated. Feedbacks, ownership of work, further trainings should be provided to the employees. Punishment can also be used if anything undesirable is performed. But, this may have negative impact on a company. So, the best combination is motivation and punishment.

2) Motivation through Job Enrichment: The job design is the role of HR. This job should be designed in a way that the person will be motivated. It should have an opportunity of achievement, recognition and higher responsibilities. This provides job satisfaction and meaning work experience which plays an important role in motivation.

3) Is it advisable to pay different rates of pay to people in different departments? Answer: It is not advisable to pay different rates of pay to people in different departments in a company. The pay given should be completely based on the qualification, experience and the sills of a person. Also, only giving higher pay packages will not solve the problem. There are numerous issues involved in retaining the employees. If as mentioned above different pay rates are employed for different departments then it may result in unrest in a company. It is possible that a person in manufacturing department is more qualified and has more skills but is underpaid as compared to an engineer in designing department. Money is the biggest motivation. And in the absence of his work being acknowledged the engineer of manufacturing department may leave the job. Also, it is important to understand that only design department is not important. Other departments like manufacturing, QC , marketing , finance etc are equally important. So, differentiating in pay packages just on the basis of pays will create unrest in company which in turn will worsen the situation.

4) How Everest Auto Industry could overcome the problems with respect to service conditions? Is it possible for them to introduce a system like flexible working hours, etc.? Answer: The basic service conditions of a manufacturing firm and service industry cannot be compared. It is possible for the company like EAIL to overcome the problem of service conditions: 1) Interest of an employee: The fact is that the service condition of an employee in service industry is better than manufacturing industry. But another fact is that all the engineers are not interested in service industry. Such engineers can be attracted by EAIL 2) Pay Packages: The pay packages of engineers should be comparable to other industries. If packages are good then engineer would work in such conditions. 3) Motivation: It is important for company to motivate engineers in order to obtain maximum efficiency. Motivation helps in working in such conditions. 4) Remuneration and other advantages: If company gives good bonuses and incentives, medical claim then engineers will be willing to work in harsh conditions According to me company can introduce system like flexible hours for the onsite engineers. Production engineers cant be included in this system. 1) If an on- site engineer is working continuously for a week or ten days at site then he may take day or two off. 2) The system of payment of advances should be introduced as this will reduce the financial tension on them. 3) Also if bill has to be cleared then the repayment process should be less hierarchical and speedy.
