Example of a Lesson Astrid Augat Foreign Languages/French II Pre-IB 10th graders/15-16 years olds Lesson Topics: Weekend Activities

Learning Theory: Constructivism Title: What did you do this weekend? Learning Objectives Students will be able to: - Narrate some of their weekend activities in the past tense - Ask for opinions, express enthusiasm, indifference, and dissatisfaction Contents and Activities A. What did you do during the weekend? Students will read sentences describing, along with pictures, the activities of three girls during last weekend. The textbook online allows also for listening of the sentences and listening of the vocabulary. (Textbook online U6 E1 page 162) Students will get familiar with those expressions by doing the following activities: 1. Go to the class group on quizlet and practice the expressions from English to French. (quizlet.com in group Fr2 SCHS) 2. Do the listening activity (txtbk pg 162 #7) where they hear Alain and Monique talking about their friends activities. Students will have to guess where they speak about Perrine, Han, or Mariyam. (Edmodo miniquiz to be done once you have written your responses down on paper first; Edmodo will show the wrong answers once the quiz submitted) 3. Fatima went on vacation and she shows her pictures. The labels with the description of the pictures are mixed up, and you have to help Fatima find the description that fits with each picture. (Txtbk pg 163 #8) 4. Five descriptions of tours you can do are presented to you. 5 statements are given; match each statement with the description of the tour. (The five tours are presented in the textbook pg 163). 5. You will practice with quizlet again, and start memorizing all the expressions. B. Expressions needed to ask for opinions, express enthusiasm, indifference, and dissatisfaction 1. Students will listen to expressions on page 164 of the textbook online. They will repeat all the expressions aloud with much emphasis (they must imagine that they are actors and exaggerate some!) 2. To check their understanding, they will do a little listening activity on page 164 #10 where they must distinguish if the people talking are enthusiastic, indifferent, or dissatisfied. (Edmodo miniquiz to be done once you have written your responses down on paper first; Edmodo will show the wrong answers once the quiz submitted)

3. Match 4 sentences with the appropriate reaction on page 164 #11 (read the sentences aloud in Vocaroo, add the letter for the matching response, and submit in Edmodo for this assignment). 4. Students will go on quizlet.com and practice the activities, and do some practice with online games on quia.com 5. Post 4 pictures with very fun or upsetting situations on the site. Students must use their phone and leave a voice message telling what their reaction is for the pictures. They will call the number 386-320-9295 and leave their name, then say each pictures number and their reaction to it in French. Assessment Students will create a storyboard of six pictures for a little presentation in Photostory 3. They will describe, in the past tense, events that happened to them, and will also add an opinion about them. They will create the story first on the story board, send the storyboard to the teacher to be proofread, and when the corrections come back, insert their pictures in Photostory 3 to make a little video. The pictures can be drawn and photographed, or they can be made with photos taken by the students. The text will NOT be added onto the pictures, contrary to earlier stories, but the students will record themselves reading the sentences with much care in order to be understood by their peers who will evaluate them. As learned earlier, students will save their Photostory in .wp3 format first, then transform them into a .wmv file that will be uploaded on Edmodo. After the deadline, all stories will also be uploaded on the Wiki, where students will add them to their personal page. Other students will watch the stories and comment on them IN FRENCH!
