Police Update - SFPD

Lt. Dangerfield came in place of Captain Sullivan. Beginning in a couple weeks there will be a beat officer patrolling on bicycle through the neighborhood from 8am-6pm. There are a lot of burglaries at AT&T Park on game nights. To address this, SFPD has dispatched plain clothed officers to patrol the area on game nights. UP2CODE is the citys new app and is an easy way for San Francisco residents to report and track nonemergency code enforcement issues to the Office of the City Attorney. Residents can be proactive by using the app to collaborate with the City Attorneys Office in improving their neighborhoods. Visit http://www.up2code.org/ for more information. Please communicate with the police department whenever you need to, have the opportunity to, or see anything suspicious. There are over 155 officers in the district. Three newsletters are emailed per week to over 4500 recipients, please contact Sergeant Hart to get on the mailing list; you can reach him at jack.hart@sfgov.org. Please contact Officer Sue Mann who is in charge of homeless / garbage / illegal camper issues. You can reach Sue at 415-850-9740 and if she does not answer leave a message. Sue is also a community liaison and she encouraged us to contact her if we need any assistance.

Recology Stefanie Medious

While San Francisco is doing a great job of recycling, we still send 1,200 to 1,400 tons of waste everyday to landfill, most of which could be recycled or composted. Theres still more we need to do to get from 80% diversion to Zero Waste. Heres a few reasons why its the right thing to do: Zero Waste Creates Jobs. Recycling creates valuable green jobs. Waste disposal at landfills creates 0.1 jobs per 1,000 tons of municipal solid waste disposed, while the processing of recyclables is 2 jobs per 1,000 tons of materials. Zero Waste Helps Grow Healthy Plants. Organic material diverted from landfill gets converted into nutrient-rich compost, which helps local farms and vineyards grow healthy and nutritious fruits and vegetables.

Zero Waste Reduces Greenhouse Gases. Materials dumped in landfills produce methane gas, a harmful and potent greenhouse gas. The more we eliminate from landfill, the less harmful gases can affect our environment and ecosystem. Back in March Recology submitted their revised zero waste rate application to the City of San

Francisco that seeks to modify the rate structure in support of the Citys efforts to achieve Zero Waste by 2020a goal established by the Board of Supervisors. The application was revised from the original submission based on public input and City review and comment. Visit http://www.sfzerowasterates.com/ for more information. JustOneTree Booka Alan Grow lemons! Thats the idea behind JustOneTree (JOT), a program of the San Francisco-based nonprofit Urban Resource Systems. With a goal of fostering community resilience through fruit tree production, JOT is partnering with neighborhood associations, nonprofits and City agencies to achieve sustainability in lemon production. Myer lemons, especially in dwarf or semi-dwarf size, are an ideal crop to illustrate the possibility of greater fruit production in dense cities such as San Francisco. Citrus trees are evergreen, comprise a key ingredient in the diet of many cultures, and can produce up to 200 pounds of fruit per year. They can also be grown indoors in a sunny window, allowing everyone to participate in the sustainability effort for San Francisco. JOT is presently gathering data on San Franciscos existing lemon trees. With a self-sufficiency need estimated at about 12,000 trees, establishing a baseline of the number and location of lemon trees is crucial for targeting specific neighborhoods to plant more trees and to assist those who want to share extra lemons. JOT relies on Lemon Ambassadors and neighborhood associations to catalog lemon trees in the JOT registry. This tool tracks the number and location of lemon trees in the city so that JOT can target specific neighborhoods for future tree planting efforts. Please help JustOneTree by registering your lemon tree, planting a new tree, and encouraging neighbors and friends to be a part of the movement. Visit www.justonetree.org for registration and more information. 2013 Taste of Potrero
Taste of Potrero is a stellar evening of tastes & talent from San Franciscos star chefs & startenders to benefit Daniel Webster Elementary School. Since 2005 Daniel Webster has been the focus of an enormous community effort to revitalize this vulnerable public school and make it a nexus for all families and a source of neighborhood pride. In spite of these uplifting community efforts, the school continues to have serious unmet needs. Deep budget cuts to education continue in the district and the state, so we need your help to ensure that all of our schools children (including more than 50% of serious economic need) have the instruction, basic tools, services and materials necessary to receive the high-quality education they deserve. Fortunately, Potrero Hill and surrounding neighborhoods are home to a wealth of generous, dedicated residents, small businesses and corporations. The Taste of Potrero 2013 Online Auction is now accepting donations! Visit the Taste of Potrero Bidding for Good auction site to make a donation or to browse our growing catalog. The auction starts on Wednesday, May 1st, so mark your calendar today! Visit https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/AuctionHome.action?auctionId=186003099 Motion for $500 contribution to Taste of Potrero brought by Christine, seconded by Frank, and approved by all present.
