Demographics

The population of Bhopal has been estimated to 1,795,648 according to the 2011 census. The demographical distribution of the city comprises of nearly 56% Hindus and 40% Muslims, while 2-4% include Christians, Jains, Buddhists and Sikhs.

This theory states that Bhopal was originally known as Bhojpal.

Bharat Bhavanis the main cultural centre of the city and one of the most important cultural centers of India. Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya is dedicated to the depiction of story of mankind in time and space. A must vistit place.

The State Legislative Assembly, or theVidhan Sabha has 230 members of Legislative Assembly. As of April 2012, the party in the majority is Bharatiya Janata Party which is led by Shivraj Singh Chauhan. Bhopal district elects seven seats to the Assembly & the elections are one of the big events.

Gandhi Medical College is the citys oldest prominent college.The hospital and the college played a crucial role in emergency response after the Bhopal Disaster. The National Law Institute University, one of the premier law schools in Bhoapl and in India.
