FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE February 24, 2012

ACOS Registers Trade Name, American European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery, and Announces European Expansion
ACOS, a Pennsylvania 501(c)(6) nonprofit corporation, has recently filed an application for registration of fictitious name with the Pennsylvania Department of State Corporation Bureau registering American - European Congress of Ophthalmic Surgery. ACOS will begin using this name in conjunction with its legally incorporated name ACOS, which reflects the societys decision to expand its membership to include European and other international physicians. In addition, ACOS has added its first European symposium that will be held this year in Cannes, France, June 29 to July 1, 2012. The new name symbolizes an exciting new stage of growth for ACOS, commented David Cox, ACOS Co-Executive Director. Europe is a natural growth area, as many of the new technological innovations now take place in Europe and other areas outside of the US. "ACOS had a phenomenal first year," stated Stephen Slade, MD, FACS, President of ACOS. "We exceeded our original membership goal, and the response to our educational initiatives has been overwhelmingly positive. We are equally excited about our expansion into Europe as well as our first European meeting. I am looking forward to our next year of continued growth!" ACOSs initiatives for 2012 include numerous advanced-level educational programs in the US and Europe, acting as the sponsor of an FDA clinical trial on corneal cross-linking, and the release of position statements on new technologies and key issues affecting ACOS members. ACOS was established in January 2011. ACOSs mission is to bring leading ophthalmologists and innovators of healthcare technologies together to advance vision care and improve patients quality of life. ****** For more information regarding ACOS, please visit www.ACOSurgery.org or contact Heather Toolan at HToolan@ACOSurgery.org or 484-581-1831.
