Safe working procedures and precautionary measures


1. All wiring work and electrical equipment shall be installed and maintained by Registered Electrician. 2. The exposed conductive part of electrical equipment, such as distribution boards, mobile generators, etc. shall be earthed 3. Portable tools, unless double insulated type, shall be provided with three core and grounded cables and connections made with three pin plugs and sockets. Reduced voltage,i.e.110 volts should be used whenever possible. 4. All electrical installations shall be inspected by a registered electrician on a regular basis. Any defects must be rectified and tested for safety and record of defects and remedial action shall be kept on site. 5. Posters shall be displayed at switchboards, distribution boards, etc., denoting action and emergency treatment in cases of electric shock 6. If working near overhead electric cables, or in the vicinity of underground cables, special safety procedures must be strictly adopted. 7. Each circuit shall be protected by proper protection device with over current and earth fault protection. 8. Distribution boards shall be fixed above ground level and in inaccessible to general public. Distribution boards shall be installed away from wet areas. For those installed near wet area or exposed to weather, waterproof type shall be used. 9. Circuit diagram shall be provided at each distribution board and circuit labels for submarines shall be provided at each distribution boards. 10. Warning labels: Danger- Electricity and notice of electric shock resuscitation shall be displayed at conspicuous position on each distribution board cover. 11. Only weatherproof type plugs and sockets are allowed for the use of electrical equipment and electrical hand-tool on site

12. Electrician shall properly lock distribution boxes 13. To combat the hazards of electric shock and fall from height, contractors/employers undertaking renovation works should: 14. Provide a safe temporary power supply system with suitable fuses and residual current devices equipped; 15. Ensure that all electrical cables and joints are properly connected and insulated against any live parts; 16. Ensure that the power supply source to any electrical installation where work has to be done is isolated and locked off using a unique key or combination retained by the person doing the work, with warning notices displayed before starting the work;
