Piecing Instructions
This pattern is planned with precise 1/4 seams throughout. To test your 1/4 seam to see if its right on, cut two pieces of fabric EXACTLY 1-1/2 x 5. Stitch them together along the 5 length. Measure across the two - at the mid-point. They should be exactly 2-1/2 wide. If not, adjust your seam allowance, and repeat this procedure until correct. 1. Stitch each 2 x as long as possible bias Plaid into a tube with a 1/8 seam. Turn and press, leaving the ends raw. 2. Using your favorite Fusible for appliqu, trace a Snowman shape for each of the 6 blocks. Position it on the Appliqu Background. Before fusing, fold a Step 1 scarf in half and slide the folded edge under the snowmans neck. Attach by fusing and then use your favorite stitch to secure the snowman to the background, keeping the scarf loose. (The scarf will lie out away from the snowman until step 7.) 3. Trace the Snowmans Hat on fusible and apply to Hat print. Also cut and fuse a nose. Fuse in place and stitch. Make 6. 4. Add the Plaid hatband by tracing and fusing on left over plaid. Stitch in place. 5. With a zigzag stitch and brown thread, give each snowman two arms, as shown. Youll need to use a stabilizer under this fabric to prevent rippling or stretching. 6. Either satin stitch or embellish with beads the dots for the coal mouth and eyes. Make 6. 7. Tie the scarf on each snowman and lightly tack it in place with thread so it will stay. Make 6. 11. Stitch a Triangle Corner to each of the 4 sides of the Step 10 pieces. The triangle will overlap the square by a seam allowance on each end, all the way around. Take care to NOT stretch these. Make 6. Press toward the triangles after all 4 are in place. 8. Stitch a 2 x 7-1/2 Bias Plaid gently to two opposite sides of the Appliqu blocks. Make 6. Do NOT press.

9. Add a 2 square of Cornerstone to both ends of the remaining (12) 2 x 7-1/2 Bias Plaid pieces. Do NOT press. 10. Attach the Step 9 units above and below the Step 8s. Make 6. Do NOT press.

12. Stitch a 2-1/2 x 14-1/2 Bias Plaid to two opposite sides of each block. Make 6. Do NOT press.

13. Stitch a 2-1/2 square of Cornerstone to both ends of the remaining (12) 2-1/2 x 14-1/2 Bias Plaid pieces. Do NOT press.

17. Add the Step 16 units above each Step 15 block, and also below two of them for the bottom row.

14. Attach the Step 13 units above and below the Step 12s. Make 6. Do NOT press.

18. Lay out the blocks and stitch them together. Then create the right side column of 4-1/2 Large cornerstones alternating with 4-1/2 x 18-1/2 Vertical Toile Sashing, and add it. Press carefully. 15. Add a 4-1/2 x 18-1/2 Vertical Toile Sashing to the left of each block. Wait to press.

16. Stitch a 4-1/2 Large Cornerstone square to the left end of all (8) 4-1/2 x 18-1/2 Horizontal Toile Sashings.

19. Stitch the 3-1/2 strips of Outer Border together, end to end. Measure through the center of the quilt, and cut two lengths this size for the two sides. Stitch them in place. 20. Measure across the center of your quilt, including the borders added in Step 19. Cut two Outer Borders this length and stitch them to the Top and Bottom. Press.

Finishing
21. Prepare for quilting. To quilt, we suggest outlining the Snowmen. Try an allover loose meander of snowflakes in the background. 22. Bind with the 2-1/2 strips that match the outer border. To ensure perfect miters on your binding, use the Binding Miter Tool from Animas Quilts.
