A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: Today the students will continue the lesson from yesterday, but they will mostly focus on the general aspect of local governments, not just Nevada specifically. The students will learn about the main key points of local governments, such as the Cities/Towns, Special Districts, and Counties; this lesson will give them a deeper understanding that not all local governments are the same. B. Target Population: Grade Level: 4th grade Skill Level: Students at all learning levels Grouping: Independent, Small groups, Whole class.

Objectives: o NV State Social Studies Standards o C14.4.4 Explain why local governments are created.

Student-Friendly Standards I can explain the importance of local governments and why they were created.

E. Procedure: 1. As a warm up the teacher will have a class discussion on what the students learned the previous day. Afterwards, the teacher will inform the students that they will continue the previous lesson and focus on what they werent able to learn about local governments. 2. The students will then watch a Brain Pop jr video about local governments in order to refresh their memory; this will also help those students that are struggling with the lesson. 3. Who collects taxes, makes contracts, and provides services? Who manages the daily operations of the city? How are special districts formed? What powers do counties have?

4. When the students finish the readings, they will do an independent activity that will require them to make a tree chart or bubble chart. The students will be asked to draw three branches on the tree and each branch should be named Cities/Towns, Special Districts, and Counties. The students will be asked to add information that describes each of the branches in order to see how much of the readings they were able to grasp. (Example: bottom of page.) o The students who are struggling in class will be in placed in a small group to get the help they need from the teacher.

5. CLOSURE: The students will write a summary of what they learned as a Ticket out the door. In order for the summaries to be accepted, the students should include some vocabulary words as well as some of the important key points of the readings, such as the Cities/Towns, Special Districts, and/or Counties. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? I will measure my students understanding of the lesson by checking their journals and how they answer the questions that are being asked. I will keep a list of the students and check if they understood or have an idea of the lesson. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. The students must be able to identify, The importance of local governments and why they were created. Reading and writing as well as creating a chart as to why local governments are important will facilitate the students understanding of the lesson. G. Reflection: 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? The easiest part of the lesson would be the activity. I find most activities to be easy to teach because the students dont require much help from the teacher; they just need guidance. This activity is fun, but more importantly educational. The students are revising what they learned and understanding what the local government provides the state. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach?

The hardest part of the lesson would be the readings because I dont want to my students to get confused or lost on what they are learning. Also, in the readings there might be a couple of sentences that the students might not understand. I found it a bit difficult to find simpler words that most students would comprehend; I want to interpret the sentences in a way that most of the students will comprehend. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I would follow up this lesson with a revision of what the students learned the past 2 days. I would also quiz them as to how much they learned and what needs to be re-taught. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I will talk to those students who are struggling with the lesson. I will try to find out what they know and move from there. If they are still struggling, I would talk to the special education coordinator to see what other ideas/skills I can imply to those students that are falling behind. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change? This lesson had to be modified because what I had planned was either too much or too little; I had to find a medium. I had to place myself in the students shoes in order to see what I had to change in order for the lesson to be successful. Hopefully this time, I was able to create a lesson that the students would benefit from and enjoy at the same time. 6. When you were writing this lesson plan, what was the most difficult part? The most difficult part was creating another lesson that would be fun and engaging for the students. My last lesson was complicated and hard to understand because I had too much happening with so little time. I had to re-think the lesson and be more time-wise because in a real classroom, I have to be a competent teacher who makes the lessons beneficial to the students. Hopefully this time, I was able to create a lesson that most students will understand and benefit from.
