Course Description: The student will demonstrate his ability to play and properly execute classical pianistic repertoire. The student will develop his technical ability on the instrument, as well as the fundamentals of music theory, music literature, and ear training. In order to complete this level, the student most passes a final exam, where he will be as to perform the following repertoire. Scales - Studio - Sonata - Prelude and Fugue - Contemporary Piece

Subjects to be covered: Technical Elements. Continue working with correct posture and fingering. All scales, 4 octaves, Major and Minor. (With variations) Arpeggios and technical studies. Strategies to develop sight reading skills. Baroque, Classic and Contemporary styles. Introduction to music and harmonic analysis. Relevant composers from these periods. Relevant Course Materials (Books, Websites, Musical Pieces): Danzas Cubanas, by Cervantes Piano Studies, by Alfred Czerny The Complete Piano Sonatas, by Mozart Piano Sonatas, by Beethoven Preludes and Fugues, by J.S. Bach

Warm up, Arpeggios (4 octaves) Work musically with the learned pieces. Sonata: harmonic analysis. Ear training. Assignments: Do an online research about most relevant composers, from classical period. Practice: Sonata and Studio. Scales separated hands. Review assignments.
