Wisdom of the Religion #14
Islamic questions on a wide variety of topics which have been answered in detail with full
explanation by the great Marja` Taqlid, ™yatull°h al-`U®m° al-Ø°jj ash-Shaykh Lußfull°h as-Æ°f¢ al-
Gulp°yg°n¢ (may All°h protect him)
Translated into English by Saleem Bhimji (www.al-mubin.org)

Question: With what proof do we assert that Prophet Mu¶ammad (blessings of All°h be upon him and his family) is the
Kh°tamun Nabieen (Finality of the Prophets) seeing as how (from his time) until the Day of Judgment, there is such a
large time period and thus – may All°h protect us – is it possible that a more perfect human being can come that would
have the characteristics of this noble personality?

Answer: One of the unquestionable beliefs and necessities of conviction in the religion of Isl°m is that of the completion
of religions with Al-Isl°m and the finality of the Prophets being that of Øadhrat Ras£l al-Akram Mu¶ammad ibn
`Abdull°h (blessings of All°h be upon him and his family) and that after this personality and the religion which he
brought, there will neither be another Prophet nor another d¢n (complete code of life) that is more perfect or more
comprehensive.

The proof of this from the Kit°bull°h (Qur˜°n) and the Sunnah are many - including the noble verse of the Qur˜°n:

('&$% # " !
“Mu¶ammad is not the father of any of you men however he is the Messenger of All°h and the Finality of the Prophets.”1

Also, we can refer to the verse of Ibtigh° which states:

-) ;7 9)": 34 5 % 6&78- !4 2%-1 0. / )'* +,&-

“And whoever chooses a d¢n (complete code of life) other than Al-Isl°m it will never be accepted from him and he will of
the losers in the Next Life.”2

and many other verses…

From the a¶°d¢th, there is the well known and consecutively related narration of Manzilah in which the Noble Prophet of
Isl°m (blessings of All°h be upon him and his family) told Am¢r al-Mo’min¢n `Al¢ ibn Ab¢ H°lib (prayers be upon him) that:

E F $3&< ? $< ?@ A 5 B CD%> 3% =<

“(O’ `Al¢) you are to me just as H°r£n was to M£s° except that there is no Prophet after me.”

1 S£rah al-A¶z°b, Verse 40

2 S£rah ™ale Imr°n, Verse 85

There are many more reliable a¶°d¢th that exist on this issue.

In summary, the issue of the finality of the Prophethood of the Prophet Mu¶ammad (blessings of All°h be upon him and
his family) is something firm and accepted from the indisputable proofs of the book of All°h, the Sunnah and the
consensus (of the community). It is a unanimous conclusion and one of the necessities of the religion that is accepted
amongst all Muslims and just because the time (of this world) has been so long (from the time of Prophet Mu¶ammad)
until the end of the world, this does mean that another Prophet must come.

Just as we know, fourteen centuries have passed since the Hijrah and many changes and events have occurred in the state
of civilization and aspects of the life of humanity (in these fourteen centuries). These changes are much more than have
occurred in all of the previous centuries that have preceded us (from the beginning of creation) however still, the
teachings of Isl°m are alive and practical and are far ahead of all time periods and generations.

…And All°h knows best
