Cross Docking

Purpose
You can use this business process to move materials directly from the goods receipt area to the shipping area without storing it first. Cross-docking can be executed in one step (directly from GR to GI) or in two steps (for example going first to a specified cross-docking storage type for repacking or labeling). For more information , see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Logistics Logistics Execution (LE) Warehouse Management System (WMS) Cross-Docking (LE-WM-DCK) Cross-Docking Execution Two-Step Cross-Docking. Cross-docking implies moving materials directly from the incoming to the outgoing physical areas of the warehouse. To process these materials without first putting them into storage, the warehouse must be aware of what deliveries are coming in and which deliveries are going out. In the two-step cross-docking method, a configuration setting indicating that two-step cross-docking is applicable is set. Then, all cross-docking is executed in two steps. For more information on cross-docking with the one or two-step method, see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Logistics Logistics Execution (LE) Warehouse Management System (WMS) Cross-Docking (LE-WM-DCK) CrossDocking Execution.

Cross-Docking Monitor
This process uses the cross-docking monitor, a tool to match incoming and outgoing materials. After logging onto the cross-docking monitor, you will see the most current warehouse situation and can choose the warehouse in which to work as well as which documents to consider for cross-docking options. There are three ways to initiate the Cross-Docking monitor: With the Execute icon This will take you to a listing of potential documents for consideration. In this screen, you can designate particular documents for cross-docking. For more information about designating documents for cross-docking, see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Logistics Logistics Execution (LE) Warehouse Management System (WMS) Cross-Docking (LE-WMDCK) Cross-Docking Monitor Cross-Docking Monitor Methods Cross-Dock Planning Tool. With the Execute Planning in the Background icon The documents to be matched will be based on the runtime and configuration decisions that have been entered. For more information about this option, see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Logistics Logistics Execution (LE) Warehouse Management System (WMS) Cross-Docking (LE-WM-DCK) Cross-Docking Monitor Opening the Cross-Docking Monitor. With the Execute Planning in the Foreground icon This will present inbound and outbound document candidates based on configuration decisions and selection criteria at the time the monitor is initiated. This is the approach considered here. When the cross-docking monitor is initiated, the user can choose which documents to consider for planning (deliveries, shipments, transfer requirements) and as well as the direction for planning from an inbound perspective, matching to outbound, or from the outbound perspective, matching to inbound.

Process Flow

This business process runs in SAP R/3 Enterprise:

Create outbound delivery. Create inbound delivery. Plan with cross-docking monitor. Use the planning tool of the cross-docking monitor to analyze the cross-docking opportunities for selected planning documents and create cross-docking decisions. These cross-docking decisions may or may not be based on the system recommendation. You can either accept the systemrecommended decisions or view more details.

For more information on cross-docking planning, see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Warehouse Management System (WMS) Cross-Docking (LE-WM-DCK) Cross-Docking Monitor Methods Creating a Cross-Docking Plan. Once the cross-docking decisions have been created, if Yard Management is being used, the plans are checked for feasibility against the Yard Management schedule. For more information , please see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Logistics Logistics Execution Warehouse Management System (WMS) Cross-Docking (LE-WMDCK) Cross-Docking Decision. Cross-docking decisions are carried out in normal processing within the warehouse. If FIFO is important, there is a configuration option to ensure FIFO rules are not violated. Post goods receipt for inbound delivery. For more information on cross-docking planning, see the SAP Library under SAP R/3 Enterprise Logistics Logistics Execution Inbound Process Goods Receipt for Inbound Delivery Goods Receipt Goods Receipt Posting. Create transfer order for inbound delivery. A transfer order (TO) based on cross-docking decisions is executed in the same way as a standard TO. When the Transfer Orders are created, the decisions are executed. Confirm transfer order for inbound delivery. A warehouse worker moves the relevant goods to the cross-docking storage type and confirms execution. Create transfer order outbound delivery. A transfer order (TO) based on cross-docking decisions is executed in the same way as a standard TO. When the Transfer Orders are created, the decisions are executed. Confirm transfer order for outbound delivery. A warehouse worker moves the relevant goods to the cross-docking storage type and confirms execution. Post goods issue.
