The article written by Giovanni Tapang is about the disadvantages teach mathematics and science in English. The writer is Giovanni Tapang who is a chairperson of The Samahan ng Nagtataguyod ng Agham at Teknolohiya Para sa Sambayanan (AGHAM), the progressive scientists organization, is from the University of the Philippines Diliman National Institute of Physics. He is also an associate professor, coauthor of several papers on panic exit dynamics, columnist of The Manila Times and an activist. He pursues community-based science schools to teach young students the basic learning of science and technology in Philippines. He always writes some articles about mathematics and science. The purpose of this article is the writer wants the government change the language used in these two subjects. Overall, I agree with the evidence shown in this article. For this article, he gives some points about why we must not teach mathematics and science in English. It is much gives the explanation for the point. The article starts with the reason why the students must learn mathematics and science in their local tongue. Besides, teaching needs a clear national objective for educational development. We must know what the government wants to make for next generation. After that, the writer state that English is for commerce and not for education. If they want to transform the subjects into real economic benefits, they must teach mathematics and science in local tongue because mathematics and science must be understood by the students. Actually, the learning and thinking process will be harmful because most of the students come from homes. They only use their predominant languages. Additionally, if the learning session uses their main language, it will encourage children to stay in school rather than drop out. It also will decrease the crime rate that involve with the students. The research made and the result shows that students will learn faster, better when taught in their vernacular language. The usage of local tongue in mathematics and science not only enhances understanding for students, but also paves the way for more potential for national development. The cultural and linguistic factors need to be taken into account to help students make sense of new information. So, teach mathematics and science in predominant language better than English. It gives a lot of benefits to individuals and also for the government. The government must take this issue seriously because it will ensure our next generation. What I have learnt from this article is we must the priority to the main language in our education. It will help us a lot. I hope many research will be held to improve our education.
