Marital adjustment in Pada Gelahang marriage in Bali

Pada Gelahang marriage is one of the mating system in Bali is unusual from other, because husband and wife act as Purusa. In the family system, Purusa is the head of the family. But, in Pada Gelahang marriage, wife still has rights and duties in the family of origin (related to the rights and obligations), as well asa husband. This may occur when the marriage of the wife's family did not have a brother as Purusa, and the husband is the youngest or the oldest who become a Purusa in the family, so Pada Gelahang marriage is the solution. In Pada Gelahang couple has a greater responsibility than usual marriage, resulting in conflict in the couple. This study aims to find out and explore how marriage adjustment in reducing conflict in the marriage.This research is a qualitative method and used case study as its study approach. The studies only use one respondent, because this marriage is hard to be found. These subjects for research were couples who live in Pada Gelahang marriage in Bali. Data and information obtained by interview and observation to accurate subject.the result and conclusion will be discussed later. Keywords: Pada Gelahang marriage couples, coping stress

Dynamics of self adjustment in women who became Jero and Nyerod in Bali

Abstract: Hindu community in Bali known an different caste marriage. a woman who comes from castes sudra and married a man from a higher caste would bear the new title as a Jero. While women from higher castes and married a man from going down caste called Nyerod. The research aims to describe of pattern of adjustment at marriage Balinese women who being Jero and Nyerod, to look for the factors supporting adjustment, and to look for factors pursuing process of adjustment. This research is a qualitative approach and used phenomenology as its study method. In this study selected three respondents from Jero and three respondents from Nyerod. Data and information obtained by interview and observation to accurate subject. These subjects of research were all marriage women in Bali who marriage at early adult and women who become Jero and Nyerod. Data analyses conducted by categorize result of themes interview and reconciled with result of observation at the family. The result and conclusion will discuss later.
