2. Course Goals: 1. Demonstrate the relevance and importance of human factors and ergonomics in our society and in industry 2. Increase your interest and awareness of human factors and ergonomic issues in everyday things and actions and in physical and mental work 3. Illustrate how to recognize and identify human factors and ergonomics problems 4. Provide you with the basic concepts, tools and methods to solve human factors and ergonomics problems Course Outcomes: 1. Identify ergonomic problems. 2. Use ergonomic tables in ergonomic problem solving. 3. Use basic biomechanical formulas to analyze ergonomic problems. 4. Use basic cognitive ergonomics concepts and formulas in solving ergonomic problems. 5. Use basic physiological concepts to analyze ergonomic problems. 6. Use basic check lists and descriptor lists as survey techniques. 7. Use anthropometric data in design. 8. Prepare ergonomics analysis report. Grades will be based on a weighted average of the following activities: Homework (4 total) 20% (5% each) Quizzes 5% (total) Examination #1 15% Examination #2 25% Examination #3 35% Grades are based on the following scale: [100 95] A+ (95 90] (90 85] A A(85 80] (80 75] (75 B+ B B-
Page 3 of 6 IOE 333 ERGONOMICS Winter Term, 2013 Class Rules: 1) All homeworks are to be submitted through Ctools website by 11:30am on the due date indicated on each homework assignment sheet. The system will not allow submission of any homework after the due time. Homeworks submitted directly to the GSI after this time period will be penalized 20-100% of the points scored, depending on the cause of late submission. Homework solutions will be made available on the due date of each homework. NO assignments will be accepted after solutions are posted. You must save a copy of your submitted homework on your personal computer or personal file system in case of any Ctools problems. You must not make any change to the saved copy of your submitted homework. If you are not able to provide a saved copy when requested by the IOE 333 instructor or if you make any change to it after submission, that homework may receive 0 credit. 2) If you are unable to attend class or complete work on time or attend examination due to illness or family emergency, notify either instructor well before (> 24 hrs) the critical period, and be prepared to: 1) provide verification if asked and 2) make up work promptly. 3) You MUST follow the Honor Code requirements at all times. (see p.3 of this syllabus for details). 4) All grade disputes must be returned with a written explanation to the Graduate Student Instructor. Disputes will only be accepted if submitted within one week from the date that the corrected exam or homework is returned in class. See the Owners Manual on the course homepage for the specific details. 5) Religious Holliday. Let us know largely in advance (at the beginning of the term) if there is a conflict between HW due dates or exam dates that would conflict with a religious holiday. It is your responsibility to notify us about conflicts. Without proper knowledge of your need we may not be able to satisfy a last minute request. 6) Extenuating circumstances. Please lest us know as soon as possible about circumstances that may affect your schedule. Any request should be adequately justified.
For example: All claims of sickness or attendance to medical/health care services should be justified by a MEDICAL DOCTOR ONLY, NO exception.
