STATEMENT OF PURPOSE If one were to ask my friends to describe me they would describe me as a very pleasant, diverse, active and intelligent Man. I think one of my most distinguishing characteristics is the diversity of experiences I possess. I am a business student with a flair for the arts. I am a man with technical aptitude and an interest in management. I also have a passion for traveling and understanding different cultures of the world. All these elements have given me a very broad outlook, with varying degrees of knowledge in a range of topics. I strongly believe that although some are not related directly, all these qualities will influence my graduate work. From a young age, I set goals beyond those of my peers. I decided to pursue a Bachelors degree in Management. I graduated from the university of cape Coast in 2009 with a bachelors degree in management studies. I continued to persue a masters degree in business Administration from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and technology in Ghana. I graduted in November 2012 with a masters degree in Finance. I feel that the next logical destination on my path is your Masters program in Economics. The curriculum of your program is similar to that which I studied previously, yet it is much more challenging and will allow me to develop my abilities further. I already have a strong background in various aspects of business, from marketing and management to accounting and economics. Because of this, I feel I am uniquely qualified to attend your program. After completion of my studies, I plan to return to Ghana to teach at the tertiary level and apply what I learn in your program to the benefit of the school. Within five years after graduating, I expect to have developed a successful career that I can be proud of. my academic interest in the chosen field is to study how micro finance affect women in the sub SaharanMicrofinance is a term for the practice of providing financial services, such as microcredit, microsavings or microinsurance to poor or disadvantaged individuals. By helping them to accumulate usably large sums of money, this expands their choices and reduces the risks they face. Microfinance consists of making small loans of usually less than $200 to individuals to establish or expand a small, self-sustaining business. For example, a woman may borrow $200 to buy chickens so she can sell eggs. As the chickens multiply, she will have more eggs to sell. Soon she can sell the chickens. Each expansion pulls her further from the devastation of poverty. Today, micro-finance plays a major role in the development of many African nations. Its impact is substantial enough to have warranted acknowledgment by the United Nations which declared 2005 "The international year of micro-finance," reminding people that millions worldwide benefit from micro-finance activities. SUMMARY OF MATERS THESIS ON FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT PRACTICES OF PUBLIC SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL WITHIN THE KUMASI METROPOLIS OF GHANA. The major role as an educational manager is to create an environment in school that will facilitate effective and successful teaching and learning. This is done through the effective management of the schools human, material and financial resource. Financial management is therefore important when it comes to school management. This research is a study on financial management practices of public senior high school in the Kumasi Metropolis. The research sought to find out the sources of funds for the schools, how those funds were disbursed, trends in income and expenditure for the past three years and challenges that the schools faced in sourcing and disbursement of funds. Data were collected from ten senior high schools in the Kumasi metropolis. The sample size was made up of ten respondents. Data were gathered using a questionnaire. The data collected were analyzed using statistical package for social sciences (SPSS) software. The findings of the research showed that delay in government grant and non-payment of school fees was a major challenge facing senior high schools in the Kumasi metropolis and limitation imposed from the state laws was a major challenge in the disbursement of funds. It was also found out that as school population increase, per unit cost of food purchases decrease. The researcher recommended that the government should take proactive steps that will help the senior high schools to receive their government subsidies in time. It was also recommended that it is necessary for the schools to mobilize or generate funds internally to augment government grants and the school fees
