PROFESSINAL PROJECTS

DEPLETION & PRODUCTION PREDICTION My training incorporates simulation on a field-wide scale into the appraisal process of tight gas horizontals. I have used simulation to achieve several benefits including: The identification of depleted areas, which provides a more accurate projection of lateral length An increased confidence in the quantification of risk Using the reservoir pressure distribution to accurately predict the production rate

Fig. 1 The peaks represent the areas of largest pressure drop, or largest amount of depletion. The infill horizontal well, shown in red, is targeted between existing vertical producers.

AMERICAN NATURAL GAS ALLIANCE I joined an interdisciplinary team to establish the deliverability of the Granite Wash formation in the Anadarko Basin. The American Natural Gas Alliance (ANGA) utilized the results to establish the potential that natural gas can have on transportation and electricity generation. My contributions are listed below: OGIP Integrated the gas in place contained in over 50 fields within the Granite Wash Type Curves Created type curves for each major field to establish average vertical and horizontal Condensate Yields Prioritized expected condensate yields on a field by field basis Costs Worked with operations engineers to develop fixed and variable costs Recovery Factor Correlated well spacing to recovery factor to identify most efficient areas to use as templates Apaches resource assessment group also used the results to help prioritize areas for development.

Fig. 2 Using public information, the extents of the Granite Wash were established and deliverability was then ascertained.

COMPLETION COST FINANCIAL MODEL Apache required a model that could estimate the completion costs accurately & easily with a minimal amount of input information. The model used relationships between the market prices of commodities and fracture stimulations ($/lb placed) to estimate the capital costs required for any vertical well within Apaches onshore acreage. The model achieved a 95% accuracy over a group 24 wells across a wide spectrum of geologic regions.

Fig. 3 The financial model used minimum amount of easily attained input information to achieve a 95% accuracy among a large group of Apache wells. COMPRESSOR EFFICIENCY OPTIMIZATION Executed a fieldwide compressor efficiency optimization to save 25% on area wide compression fees. The process involved renegotiated contract terms, equipment specifications, and coordinating logistics in th field.

Fig. 4 The application above used a 150 hp compressor for over 6 years; after discovering the inefficiencies, the contract terms were renegotiated and the costs were reduced.

REAL TIME MICRO-SEISMIC MONITORING AND ANALYSIS Worked with an interdisciplinary team to monitor and evaluate one of the largest micro-seismic projects ever performed. Roles included: Stimulated Rock Volume Estimated stimulated rock volumes for various stages for purposes including volume of gas contacted, simulation initialization, performance prediction Geological Influences Correlated fracture shape and orientation to surrounding geologic barriers Procedural Influences Evaluated changes in fracture height and length growth resulting from modifications to rate, pressure, and sand concentration The results allow Apache to evaluate the efficiency in fracturing procedure, well spacing, and geologic mapping.

VERTICAL INTEGRATION FROM SAND MINE TO WELLHEAD I worked with the logistics department and outside consultants to create a framework that estimated the impact of vertically integrating the completion materials supply chain from sand mine to wellhead. Roles included up-scaling wellsite fracturing operations to nation-wide operations and modeling NPV impact of complete integration.

CLUSTER ANALYSIS I performed analysis on behalf of the regions to analyze the effects of increasing cluster density. The goal of the study was to answer the question, do extra clusters help?; the results were presented by senior staff at Apaches internal technical conference. The results implied the increasing clusters have diminishing returns in lower and lower permeability environments. The conclusions reached by this study were backed by field data.

LARGE SCALE LOG ANALYSIS & MAPPING Created a full scale mapping and log analysis package that demonstrated the capability to analyze 15,000 wells in less than 90 seconds. The calculator was created in used with the goal of examining all potentially bypassed pay within a basin for specific formations of interest. The software package has been sucessfully tested and compared against results generated by the companys experts in the field. The tool has been cretaed for scoping purposes and has uncovered potential within several formations previously tested in the 1980s & 90s. The project is still in its beginning stages but has already contr ibuted to asset level decisions.

Fig. 7 The net reservoir portrays fluvial to estuarine channel system terminating into a wave dominated delta and possible barrier island complex generated by 925 wells; iterations with varying cutoffs, water salinities, and rock models can be generated within seconds (~200 logs per second).

PERSONAL PROJECTS

ALGORITHMIC AUTOMATED TRADER Using C++, I created software that connected to the major exchanges and executed trades autonomously. The software had three functions: Listening Function: Listened to incoming data from the market (bid/ask / volume) and recorded the real time data into files. Algorithmic Function: Used recent data to update the algorithms to search execute trades off of various patterns. o Pattern 1: Predicting the next 30 seconds of activity based on the trading patterns for that day. o Pattern 2: Identifying and capitalizing on noticeable mistakes made by other autonomous trading clients (clients executing large orders at the bid and lower). Executing Function: Based on information from the algorithmic functions, the executing function would open and close positions. All of the functions were implemented successfully over the period of six months however; the algorithms were too inconsistent for active deployment. Overall, the executions were positive but not at the value to continue to justify the time invested. This project was shelved and will be revisited at a later time.

AUTONOMOUS AERIAL DRONE I am currently creating an aerial drone using parts from the helicopter and commercial telecommunications industries. The goal of the project is to create a large unmanned that is able to carry out orders autonomously while sending a real time video feed and map back to base miles away. This project has spanned over 13 months and is a continuous work in progress. I have implemented the project in the steps outlined below. Technology Review: Identified all of the required technology and proved the concept on paper. COMPLETED Video Capture and Recognition: Programmed computer vision to capture a digital video feed and detect movment. This will allow the drone to stream the video and act autonomously on movement. COMPLETED Auto-pilot Commands: Built upon work from the aerospace industry and several online aerial enthusiast communities to develop an auto-pilot solution for the drone. The software was programmed to allow for autonomous support and interfaced with a base station for both video feed and aerial commands. COMPLETED Drone Construction: Using parts from the scale helicopter indsutry, a base model will be constructed and fitted with the hardware attained in the previous steps. COMPLETED Drone Testing: After the drone is constructed, I will debug the product add on features to improve the abilities. INCOMPLETE This project has tested the extent of my engineering skills and is very close to full testing.

IPHONE BASED SOCIAL NETWORK - STOCKCOLONY In 2010, I created a social network that caters to communities of investors. The app had two main functions. Fundamental Analysis: I managed to acquire the balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements for over 5,000 stocks listed on the NYSE, NASDAQ, & AMEX exchanges. This was a diligent process that took a tremendous amount of time to allocate and organize. I created several prebuilt functions that allowed users to track the profit margins, EBITDA, & over thirty other metrics over several years. Social Network: Users would leave their opinions on equities of their choice recommend their favorite picks. The application allowed the ability to comment on other posts and rate the posts of others. The software would rate the users picks and value/rank their portfolio across the community. This ranking system allowed users to pick and choose which ratings to trust. The application was launched successfully and attained upwards of 50 users. The application required a significant time devotion to maintain and promote, which led to its eventual closure.
