Secondary Lesson Plan Template Topic of lesson: Statistics Review Groups Lesson 5 Length of class: 50 minutes Standard(s) to be addressed in this lesson: 7.SP.1. Understand that statistics can be used to gain information about a population by examining a sample of the population; generalizations about a population from a sample are valid only if the sample is representative of the population. Enduring Understandings/Essential Questions targeted in this lesson: Statistics is the process of collecting, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data to make and evaluate inferences and predictions about our world How can we use statistics to study and analyze the world? Learning Objectives for this lesson (Written using verbs from Blooms Taxonomy): Students will create and interpret multiple graphical representations and their measures of center on the worksheet with 85% accuracy. Instructional method(s) chosen in this lesson (and why): Collaborative learning was chosen. This is a chance for students to work on what they need. Students can work at a deeper level if they are proficient and students that arent get more time and re-teaching. Materials/Resources: -Pencil/paper -Computers -3 different groups sheets -Homework Lesson Sequence: (How will you organize your lesson?) 1. There will be multiple groups already set up from the results from the quiz the previous day. There will be 4 groups. 1. Re-teaching of everything 2. Re-teaching of making inferences and analyzing 3. Proficient in everything 2. Each group has its own sheet, doing the same activity with different support from me. 3. Group 3 will go to the computers and collect data and answer the questions on their sheet. It has more inferencing and analyzing the data on a deeper level. 4. Group 2 will begin their worksheet. It has the data provided and they need to

make different graphical representations and finding measures of center. Once they all are at a good place I will meet with them and talk through the inferencing and analyzing. The students will talk with me about how to analyze the data. 5. Group 1: I will start by re-teaching how to do the different graphs and finding the measures of center. They will then work on the worksheet and solve them on their own while I talk to group 2. Then I will return and re-teach inferencing and analyzing. We will go through this together for the graphs that they have made. 6. I will walk between the three groups and answer any questions they have. 7. If a group or student gets done before the bell, they can begin their assignment. Imagine that a student doesnt know anything about statistics, make a dictionary of at least ten words you need to know to do statistics. Assessment of learning (How will I know if students achieved my learning objectives?) Students will turn in their work for the day which will show if they understand the objective and to what level. Lesson Checklist Did I hook my students by getting them excited about the topic? Did I introduce my learning objectives to the students (even if I just posted them in the room)? Are my learning objectives aligned with my state standards? Did I choose an instructional strategy/activity appropriate to the purpose(s) of the lesson? Did I organize my lesson clearly? Did I account for any downtime and/or transitions? Did I model or provide guided practice (if necessary)? Did I scaffold student learning (if necessary)? Did I assess my students learning (formative or summative)? Did I successfully bring the lesson to a within the allotted time? Did I provide a bridge to the next lesson in my unit sequence? Did I provide anchor/enrichment activities for students who complete the lesson early (if necessary)? Did I differentiate for my individual students needs?
