2013 - ISSUE 8 APRIL 23, 2013
Dear Church, We at Bixby Knolls Christian Church are incredibly blessed to own and operate along with the other 140 congregations of the Pacific Southwest Region a camp and conference center in the San Bernardino mountains, just east of the city of San Bernardino. Since 1957, youth and adults have been finding spiritual renewal at the place known as Loch Leven. Lately, I have enjoyed several opportunities to volunteer my time at Loch Leven. A few months ago, Ethan and I worked in the kitchen during a retreat sponsored by NAPAD (North American Pacific Asian Disciples). Earlier this month, Tristan and I did the same during Spring Fling, a leadership retreat for high school students. Ethan was a participant at Spring Fling. In the middle of Spring Fling, a very special event took place that drew folks from all over the region: the groundbreaking ceremony for a one million dollar renovation of Campbell Lodge, a grand and historic structure in the heart of Loch Leven. Built in 1928, Campbell Lodge
is the only remaining redwood lodge in the San Bernardino National Forest, and the renovation project is long overdue. How exciting it will be to see this building in full use again soon! I will be heading back up to Loch Leven this coming Saturday, along with Ginger and Robbie Charboneau, for a regional work day. Im not sure what projects we will be assisting with, but I look forward to participating in a day of volunteer work with other folks from around the region. Loch Leven has had a profound spiritual impact on nearly everyone who has ever attended one of our camps there. It is the place where I, and many others, accepted Gods call to ordained ministry, and the place where people of all vocations have found purpose for their lives. Whether you have been to Loch Leven or not, I hope you realize just how significant it is to the ministry of our congregation and our region. I encourage you to support Loch Leven with your prayers, your time, and your money. And if youve never been to this wonderful place, do make time for a visit. One really good opportunity to visit is Rock the Loch, our annual music festival, which takes place on September 28. Blessings, Pastor Danny
sing pray twice) and try in our own small way to inspire others to the wonder and worship of God. And maybe, just maybe that will ease someones pain, comfort someone in loneliness, or elevate someones mood to the love and joy of Christ in their lives. Bring those someones to church with you and be blessed twice. Blessings to all, Barb Peebles

Perhaps youve noticed in the Sunday bulletin that the second Sunday of each month is labeled Food Sunday. Thank you to our Angel Gardener who provided new plants for the planter boxes in the rear parking lot. BKCC is preparing for tenting of the entire church for exterminating purposes. The plants have been removed for their protection and will be replanted when the extermination has been completed. Your wonderful works and generosity has been expressed and appreciated by many. As of this writing, a date for the tenting of the premises has not yet been determined. Weather temperature is a factor in establishing the date. Everyone will be notified when the date has been established. Thank you Angel!
Bixby Knolls Christian Church will pay half the cost of camp for any youth who are active in the life of the congregation. In addition, regional scholarships are available to further offset the cost of camp for those who need it. Regional scholarship applications should be turned in to Pastor Danny or the church office this Week.
