WELDING W E L D I N G

BPV Code, Section IX: Welding and Brazing Qualifications PD190

This is a basic course that will train participants to comply with the requirements of ASME Section IX, Welding and Brazing Qualifications. Participants will gain a working knowledge of ASME Section IX. A review of the welding processes and variables, and a review of basic welding metallurgy will be conducted in order to provide all participants with sufficient background in welding technology to interpret and understand Section IX. The mechanics of using Section IX and how to address its requirements and its relationship with other code sections will be explained in a simple, straightforward manner. Emphasis will be placed on qualifying procedures in a cost-effective manner and on writing welding procedures so that they contribute positively to the manufacturing process. The requirements for qualification of welders, brazers and operators will be examined with particular emphasis on minimizing the cost and maximizing the usefulness of qualifications. Time will be provided to address individual participant's problems and concerns. All participants will receive the BPVC-IX - 2010 BPVC Section IX-Welding and Brazing Qualifications codebook.

Practical Welding Technology PD359

Anyone who has had no previous exposure to welding but needs to understand its fundamentals will benefit from the practical understanding of welding technology offered here.

You Will Learn

Welding terms, definitions Nondestructive testing symbols Welding metallurgy Heat treatments, residual stresses and distortion control Welding processes and power supplies and the properties of metals Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), including description, documentation, and qualification Testing requirements and welder performance qualification and certification

Who Should Attend

Managers, engineers, production and maintenance staff, inspectors, welders and others who work with welding. Note: Each participant should bring a calculator and pencils to class, and each will receive a copy of Modern Welding Technology (6th Edition), by Howard B. Cary and Scott Helzer, and AWS A3.0 Standard Welding Terms. Instructor: Albert J. Moore Jr.

You Will Learn

How Section IX is organized and how to find requirements for welding qualifications The metallurgy and welding process knowledge that forms the basis for the rules for welding qualifications Practical, instructive, welding procedures that are compliant with Section IX Welder performance qualifications that are compliant with Section IX How to review welding documentation for compliance with Section IX

This course provides an introduction to the principles of welding technology. The course describes the process of welding and how it affects welded materials and structures. It describes the electric circuits that are used to generate welding arcs, material properties, and the metallurgical and dimensional effects of welding on structures. It also provides an overview of weld design concepts including efficient weld sizing and communication of weld and welding information through weld symbols on drawings.

You Will Learn

The use and application of common welding processes The technical factors that describe each welding process The advantages and disadvantages of each process Weld examination methods and quality issues

Who Should Attend

New technologists, engineers, managers and quality personnel who wish to understand the fundamental principals of welding to control and troubleshoot welding processes, reduce operating cost and improve the quality of their product. It is an ideal prerequisite to the ASME B&PVC Section IX course for those individuals with little or no prior welding experience.
