Calculation of restriction-orifice to protect Rotary & Turbine Meters against overflow.

This program calculates the dimensions of orifice for protection of rotorgasmeters and turbine meters against overloading. This calculation is based on the book SOLVING PROBLEMS IN FLUID MECHANICS VOLUME 2 of J.F. Douglas * Because the discharge factor is a preset value, it is important to make the restriction orifice according the example drawing. The restriction-orifice has to be mounted according to the Mounting Instruction contained within the drawing's notes. Calculation Select Case Scenario Overspeed factor of the meter Medium Pressure-rating of meter AUTO Case 1 20 Ethylene ANSI 600 Cell C 8 must be selected first Cell C 9 corresponds to the meter selected with Case 1 = smallest meter & in Manual Mode only one option is available

Manual Data Input of the meter:

IN AUTO MODE, CALCS ARE DONE AUTOMATICALY & CELLS FROM C15 TO C23 ARE IRRELEVANT Type of meter IRM-3 Nominal diameter of meter D 200 mm. Maximum capacity of the meter Qmax 650 m3/h

Input data of the medium:

k-factor (see list for common gases) Pressure of the medium Density of the medium Discharge factor (*) k Pv rhov Cd 1.25 50.00 57.8 0.95 ---bar kg/m3 ----

Calculated Diameter

Case 1 170.38

Case 2 170.38

Case 3 #N/A

(*) The discharge factor, based on the dimensions and shape of the Emerson's Restriction Orifice, is 0.95. For other shapes of the orifice the discharge factor can be different & need to be changed.
