About this Guide
The purpose of this guide is to provide basic instructions for a first time installation and
configuration of the MCD 5000 Deskset System.
NOTE
The instructions given in this guide apply to both MCD 5000 Deskset System
installation and configurations - with and without OMC.

Preparing for Installation 1
An MCD 5000 Deskset System consists of one or more MCD 5000 Desksets, one or more MCD
5000 Radio Gateway Units (RGUs), one or more radio devices, and the MCD 5000
Configuration Tool (CT), all connected through an IP network (the minimal MCD 5000 system
is one Deskset directly connected to one radio). Each device in the MCD 5000 system must be
assigned a name, and each device connected to the network requires an IP address and a
"RPDFL ID"; for administrative purposes the devices can be grouped into "regions", "counties",
and "PSAPs". The administrator should define these.
Before installing the MCD 5000 Deskset System components, you must first perform the
following tasks:

Install and Load Required Software Tools.

Define System Topology
The following figure is an example of an MCD 5000 Deskset System without OMC topology.

PROCEDURE 1-1 How to Define System Topology
1 Determine the number of components required for your MCD 5000 Deskset
System - MCD 5000 Desksets and MCD 5000 RGUs.
2 Define IP addresses for each component of the system (for free IP addresses in
your network - consult with your system administrator).
NOTE
The PC that is used for the MCD 5000 Configuration Tool (CT) also
needs an IP address that is compatible with the System Topology.

Install and Load Required Software Tools
Installing the MCD 5000 Configuration Tool (CT)
The MCD 5000 CT PC must meet the following minimum system requirements:
Processor: Intel Xeon W3503 2.4GHz 1066MHz Dual Core
System Memory: 2 GB
Free space on hard disk: 20 GB
Network adapter with LAN: 10/100 Mbps
Screen resolution: 1024x768
Operating system: Windows 7 (64 bit)
PROCEDURE 1-2 How to Install the MCD 5000 CT
1 Insert the supplied MCD 5000 Deskset System Configuration Tool Application
installation CD into the CD drive of the PC that will be used for system
configuration. The application installation begins automatically.
NOTE
If the installation does not automatically begin, double click the
MCD-5000-CTSetup.exe installation file on the installation CD.
2 Click Next.
Result: The End-User License Agreement window opens.
Click Yes to accept the license agreement.
3 Ensure that the correct location for installation of the Configuration Tool
software appears in the topmost box and then click Next.
Result: The Installing MCD 5000 Configuration Tool window opens and the
software is installed and then the Setup Finished window opens.
4 Click Finish.
Result: The Configuration Tool program is installed and a shortcut icon appears
on the PC desktop .

Load and Use the Excel Configuration Template
Initial definition of the MCD 5000 Deskset System in the Configuration Tool is done with a .csv
(Comma Separated Variable) file. This file is most easily created in Excel.
An Excel configuration template example TopologyTemplate-MCD5000.xls is located in the
MCD 5000 CT application installation directory, by default C:\Motorola\MCD 5000 CT\. An
empty file TopologyTemplate-MCD5000-Empty.xls is also located in the same location.Verify
that the files exists.
When you define your system, you can use the example file, delete the existing values and insert
your new values, or, use the example file as reference and use the empty file to define your
system.
PROCEDURE 1-3 How to Use the Excel Configuration Template
1 Open an Excel Configuration workbook template.
NOTE
For the excel template example or empty file, navigate to
C:\Motorola\MCD 5000 CT\TopologyTemplate-MCD5000.xls or
TopologyTemplate-MCD5000-Empty.xls.
2 Enter the information for the MCD 5000 RGUs and Desksets (IP addresses,
names, GU ID as given in How to Set IP Addresses for the System
Components).
Use the example template for reference.
You dont need to populates columns starting from Groups and on. Also, if you
are configuring an MCD 5000 Deskset - radio information is not required.
3 After all the fields are filled, save the .xls file as a .csv file (by selecting the option
CSV (Comma delimited). The created file should look like the example shown
below.
NOTE
Current versions of Excel will generate two warnings when this is
done: "The selected file type does not support workbooks with
multiple sheets" and "filename.csv may contain features that are not
compatible with CSV". Click OK for the first warning and YES for
the second.

Initializing Units for Network 1
This chapter includes step by step procedures for setting the IP address & RPDFL (GU ID) for
each of the MCD 5000 Deskset Devices (MCD 5000 Deskset and MCD 5000 RGU) by directly
connecting the Configuration Tool PC to the device's "Internal LAN" connector.

Set IP Addresses for the System Components
PROCEDURE 2-1 How to Set IP Addresses for the System Components
1 Set your PC IP address to 10.0.0.2 and the netmask to 255.255.255.248.
Use the Start>Control Panel>Network & Sharing >Change Adaptor Settings.
Click on Active Connection
Click on Properties
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Click on use the following IP address
Click OK for your settings to take affect.
Result: This is a temporary setting for your PC that enables it to connect to the
Desksets and RGUs which have the default IP address for the Internal LAN port
set to 10.0.0.1 at the factory.

2 For the MCD 5000 Deskset - Connect the DC cable of the Power Supply unit to
the DC Inlet on the bottom side of the MCD 5000 Deskset. Make sure the cable is
not routed with tension.
Connect the AC cord of the power supply unit to the AC power wall mount outlet
(110-240VAC,50/60Hz). The AC power outlet should be as near as possible to the
equipment and should be accessible. Make sure that the cable is not routed with
tension.
NOTE
If the AC line is alive, the MCD 5000 Deskset unit will be powered
and start its booting process.
3 For the MCD 5000 RGU - Connect one end of the grounding wire to one of the
grounding screws at the back panel of the MCD 5000 RGU. Install the spring
washer and the nut. Tighten the nut.
Connect the other end of the grounding wire to the site grounding port.
Connect the DC cable of the Power Supply unit to the DC Inlet of the MCD 5000
RGU. Make sure the cable is not routed with tension.
Connect the AC cord of the Power Supply unit to the AC wall-mount power
outlet (110-240 VAC, 50/60 Hz). The AC power outlet should be as near as
possible to the equipment and should be accessible. Make sure that the cable is
not routed with tension.
NOTE
If the AC line is alive, the MCD 5000 RGU unit will be powered and
start its booting process.

4 Connect the PC LAN port to the Internal LAN port on the MCD 5000 RGU or
MCD 5000 Deskset using a standard LAN cable.
5 Double click the MCD 5000 CT desktop icon.
Result: The MCD 5000 Configuration Tool main window opens.

6 Select Resource>Gateway Unit>Define GU IP in the drop down menu.
NOTE
This will allow you to define the IP addresses used on the External
LAN port.
Result: The following GU Login window appears.

7 Enter the User Name and User Password and click OK.
NOTE
The default user name is: tech
The default user password is: ABCD123456efgh*
Result: The following GU IP configuration window appears.
IP Address - insert the address as given in Define System Topology.
Subnet Mask - provided by your system administrator.
Default Gateway - your system administrator determines if this value is required
and provide if it is.

8 Based on the System Topology defined in How to Define System Topology,
type in the desired IP address, netmask and Default Gateway IP address (if using
WAN) for the connected MCD 5000 RGU or MCD 5000 Deskset.
Click the OK button to apply the inserted changes.
Result: The following notification appears.
IMPORTANT
Before proceeding with your settings, verify that your GU had
completed the restart process and is ready for work.
NOTE
The IP address shown in this notification is the address of the internal
LAN port, not the address configured to the external LAN port.
Click OK.

NOTE
In most cases the factory assigned RPDFL ID will be sufficient,
however if this ID is assigned to another unit you will need to enter a
unique RPDFL ID (every unit in the MCD 5000 Deskset System must
have a unique ID). The RPDFL ID (Gateway Unit ID) can be taken
from the window shown in step 7 (first line). Refer to MCD 5000
Deskset System without OMC Installation and Configuration Guide
(6802987C97) or MCD 5000 Deskset System with OMC Installation
and Configuration Guide (6802987C96) for RPDFL ID settings.
10 Repeat steps 4 through 9 for all MCD 5000 Deskset System components (MCD
5000 RGUs and Desksets) to be configured.

This chapter include step by step procedures that will help you program your MCD 5000
Deskset System with database information.In this chapter, the device is connected to the LAN,
and the remaining system parameters are downloaded from the Configuration Tool over the
LAN. This results a ready to operate MCD 5000 Deskset System.

Downloading System Database and Preparing it for Work
PROCEDURE 3-1 Downloading your MCD 5000 Deskset System Database and
Preparing it for Work
1 Verify that How to Use the Excel Configuration Template was performed.
2 Connect all the MCD 5000 Deskset System components to the IP network (each
device should have had it's IP address set in the proceeding step) by connecting
from the External LAN port on the Deskset/RGU to the network switch or router.
Connect the Configuration Tool PC to the network.
3 Change the configuration PC to a network compatible IP address (i.e. PC needs to
be part of the subnet of the MCD 5000 Deskset System topology.
Use the Start>Control Panel>Network & Sharing >Change Adaptor Settings.
Click on Active Connection
Click on Properties
Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)
Click on use the following IP address as was done in Step 1 of How to Set IP
Addresses for the System Components).

4 Connect the desired Radio to MCD 5000 RGU/Deskset radio port.
MCD 5000 RGU - APX 7500 Consolette is connected to the Internal LAN port
(refer to APX 7500 Mobile Radio with O5 Control Head Users Guide
(6875947M01)). All other radio types are connected to the 4W E&M and Comm
ports of each one of R1 through R4 connectors.
MCD 5000 Deskset - APX 7500 Consolette is connected to the Internal LAN
port (refer to APX 7500 Mobile Radio with O5 Control Head Users Guide
(6875947M01)). All other radio types are connected to the 4W E&M and Comm
ports.
5 In the CT main window click System->Create
Result: A Create MCD 5000 System screen appears.

6 Give the system a name and press OK.
Result: Open File window is displayed.
7 To import the .csv file prepared in How to Use the Excel Configuration
Template into the MCD 5000 CT application, go to the location of your topology
file, select it and press Open.
Result: The following window appears.
This window shows an example of the System Configuration from File window.
This window lists all the devices currently in the Configuration Tool database,
plus those available to be added from the loaded configuration file. The first
column represents the action to be applied; the user may select the action from the
drop-menu. Each line must have an action selected before clicking the Apply
button. The remaining 4 columns present identifying information for the GU, the
window may be sorted by any column to simplify selection.

8 Click the Apply button.
Result: The Enter User Credentials dialog appears.

9 Enter User Name (default is: tech) and User Password (default is:
ABCD123456efgh*) and click OK.
Result: After the loading configuration from file is completed, the MCD 5000 CT
main window should look like this (show all MCD 5000 Deskset System listed):
