CHAPTER 1 THE BASIC PARTS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM Did you know we all have an immune system? I bet you havent. Well it is one of the most important systems in the body, without it you would die from the smallest viruses and sicknesses. There are two basic parts of the immune system cells: lymphocytes and phagocytes. They both travel in lymph, a liquid that runs through blood. Lymphocytes allow body to remember and recognize previous invaders. Phagocytes kill the germs.
Immune:means to be protected against something Sickness:a disease or malady Virus: a viral decease Lymph: a clear yellowish liquid that contains wight blood cells Phagocytes:a cell that kills germs Lymphocytes:a cell that remembers germs so next time it comes they can get rid of it faster

CHAPTER 2 PROCESS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

In the previous chapter you learned about the basic parts of the immune system, now we will take a journey through the immune system. 1. First the Epidermis (the outside layer of skin) warns the body of incoming germs like for example if you are cold. 2.The next part where germs try to attack is the eyes. The tears that wash the eyes have special

enzymes (chemicals) that break down the cell walls

of the bacteria. 3.Saliva in the mouth works like the tears in the eyes. Your saliva has special enzymes that break down cell walls of bacteria. 4. Mucous membranes line the mouth and lungs. They act like a barrier to bacteria. Enzymes:Special chemicals that break down bacterias cell walls Mucous: A green material that lines your nose mouth lungs and stomach

CHAPTER 3 GOODS AND BADS OF THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

You might think that the immune system doesnt get affected by anything, since it is the system that protects your body. But there are things that can affect it. Here are some ways to keep your immune system healthy. Exercise is the first way. It helps you by making your immune system more active so it produces more white blood cells.

Not eating a lot of sugar is the second way. If you eat too much sugar it suppresses the immune system and makes it produce white blood cells at a slower rate. Stress is the third and last way . Short time stress is actually good for you because it boosts the immune system with the adrenalin. But chronic (long term) stress is bad, because it makes your immune system produce less white blood cells.

CHAPTER 4 IMMUNE SYSTEM SICKNESSES AIDS is the first, and one of the worst. It is a sickness that damages your immune system into not working. Immunodificiancy is the 2nd. It is when the immune system, is not working properly or not working at all. It is also really bad. Auto-immune disorders happen when your immune system mistakenly attacks itself or the healthy organs of the body.

CONCLUSION
In conclusion, I learned a lot from this study. Before I learned about the immune system, I didnt know what kept you from getting sick. I didnt know why doctors touched the sides of your neck. It turns out its to check out your glands if they are swollen that means your immune system is fighting to get rid of a sickness or infection. It is cool to learn about this system. I learned a lot of this system. I even had fun along the way. Thank you for taking the time to read this book.

GLOSSARY
Enzymes: Any of numerous proteins or conjugated proteins produced by living organisms and functioning as biochemical catalysts. Immune: having resistance to infection by a specic pathogen Lymph: Lymph is a clear to yellowish watery uid that is found throughout the body. It circulates through body tissues picking up fats, bacteria, and other unwanted materials, and ltering them out through the lymphatic system. This uid contains white blood cells, known as lymphocytes, along with a small concentration of red blood cells and proteins. It circulates freely through the body, bathing cells in needed nutrients and oxygen while it collects harmful materials for disposal. Lymphocytes: Any of the nearly colorless cells found in the blood, lymph, and lymphoid tissues, constituting approximately 25 percent of white blood cells. Phagocytes: A cell, such as a white blood cell, that engulfs and absorbs waste material, harmful microorganisms, or other foreign bodies in the bloodstream and tissues.

Sickness: A disease; a malady. Stomach acid: digestive secretions of the stomach glands consisting chiey of hydrochloric acid and mucin and the enzymes pepsin and rennin and lipase viruses: Any of various simple submicroscopic parasites of plants, animals, and bacteria that often cause disease White blood cells: Any of various blood cells that have a nucleus and cytoplasm, separate into a thin white layer when whole blood is centrifuged, and help protect the body from infection and disease. White blood cells include neutrophils, eosinophils, basophils, lymphocytes, and monocytes. Also called leukocyte, white cell, white corpuscle.
