QUESTION: Plagiarism has become an issue of growing concern across universities in Malaysia and internationally. Discuss.

Plagiarism is using other peoples idea such as words, opinions, thoughts, products, information, finding or results, project paper both spoken and written in your work without crediting them. On second thought, can words and ideas really be stolen? The expression of original ideas is considered as intellectual property and it is laws therefore protected by copyright as long as they are recorded in same ways be it in a manuscript, books, computer files and etc. Therefore in the eyes of laws, plagiarism is an act of fraud. It involves both stealing someone elses work and laying about it afterwards. Everyone is prove to commit plagiarism especially university students who one academically [ ] with education and research. There are many reasons why students plagiarize. Sometimes deadlines come around more quickly than expected, sometimes assignments feel overwhelming and sometimes the boundaries of plagiarism and research just get confused. Some students might [ ] taking, copying and adapting [ ] produced by others is considered right as it is [ ] an academic purpose. Achieving and passing with good grades matters more to them than caring about what is right or wrong. Todays students learn quickly that finding and manipulating data or the internet is a valuable skill. With the wealth of information available online, the production of original analysis and interpretation many seem like a [ ] work. Plagiarizing also because a thrill to same just likes hacking. It is a hidden act where only the expert is able to conceal the act. Student plagiarize because of the constant pressure from others like family, peers, lecturers to compete for scholarships, acceptance, recognition, admission and of course to get place in the job market. The stiff competition existing in the academic atmosphere contributes to the act of plagiarism. Our education system where paper qualification is considered the most important factor in achieving places, recognition from society is another contributing factor to students committing plagiarism. It is time for the system to change in order to inculcate good values among students and to produce graduates with holistic achievements not graduates who proudly [ ] the number of as the received on papers. Some students justify their act because others plagiarize so they must do same to keep up with the trend perhaps or to get as easily without sweating. Some may not realize or unable to realize the length of time needed to produce an original piece of work until the time to produce last minute when the dateline of their assignment is just around the corner. Then they would [ ] to getting information the

easiest way by copying, adapting, taking from existing sources and claiming the work as theirs. There are some guidelines students could take to avoid them from committing plagiarism. First of all they should be answer the plagiarism is an act of froud whereby they would face penalties for committing such act. Lectures must play important roles to guide the students against plagiarism. Teach the students the real skills they need or interpretation and analysis how to process the information they find. Scheduling pages of progress as their paper is one way to assist the students. Students should use proper quotations marks or by citing sources. Supply acknowledging that certain materials has been borrowed and providing audience with information necessary to find that source. They should develop the habit of writing their own thought and contributing their own ideas, in calculate good values in them and never claim credit when it is not theirs. That is by submitting outlines drafts on specified dates before the final submission. This will help students to organize their time well. Everyone should play their role to prevent plagiarism. Educate the students at earlier stage in schools perhaps about the seriousness of the offense so they are well aware of it and are able to avoid themselves from committing plagiarism at later stage.
