Student-Friendly Standards H.3.1.5 I can look at a calendar and pick out school events and discuss what will happen at the event.

E. Procedure: (numbered steps) 1. TW review the class definition of respect and review the examples given. 2. TW introduce the word event. An event is something that happens at a given place and time. There will always be a reason for an event and there is usually a specific time. For example, our awards assembly on Friday starts at 12PM. The event is an assembly, the reason is to pass out awards and the time is at 12PM. 3. SW come up with examples of events with their table groups. 4. SW then share with the teacher everything that their group came up with detailing what the event is, the reason for the event and the time. 5. TW pass out the school calendar (it will list events such as assemblies, Halloween night, dances.) 6. TW go over the first event on the calendar with the students. What is the first event? Remember, that events are highlighted in blue. Right. The first event that we can see on the calendar is the event we talked about at the beginning of class-the awards assembly on Friday at 12PM.

Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will know that students understand the concepts through discussion and if the student is able to work with their table groups to complete the School Events worksheet. G. Reflection: (answers to assignment specific questions) 1. Which part of the lesson do you think will be the easiest for you to teach? I think this whole lesson will be fairly easy. 2. Which part will be most challenging for you to teach? I think the biggest difficulty will be having the students understand how to read the calendar. 3. How will you follow up or extend this lesson? I would want students to come up with their own calendars and fill in their own events. 4. What will you do for students who dont grasp the concepts? I would allow students to work with me in the back of the room if needed to review concepts and look at the calendar together. 5. Which part of the lesson, if any, do you think might need to change?
