BC Greens announce West Vancouver resident Richard Warrington as candidate for West Vancouver - Sea to Sky
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE, The British Columbia Green Party has announced that Richard Warrington of West Vancouver will stand as the Green Party nominee in the upcoming provincial election on May 14th in West Vancouver - Sea to Sky. A school teacher by profession, Warrington spent has most of his professional life in Denmark. Through the time he spent in Denmark he saw the effects which a socially and environmentally responsible government can have. Ive seen in Denmark that socially responsible governments can deliver real results in a cost effective manner, I believe that the BC Green Party can do the same in British Columbia Warrington intends on running on a platform of wanting to reform British Columbias democratic institutions and advocate for a forward thinking economy with jobs that will last us for the next fifty years not just the next fifty years. Warrington is hoping to promote the Green party as a real, viable alternative centred around cooperation and balanced approach to government. Warrington believes that British Columbians deserve MLAs who favour positivity instead of senseless attacks. Its a terrible shame that all we see from the BC Liberals and New Democrats is back and forth bickering. The Green Party is a real, socially progressive, fiscally conservative, moderate third choice.. Greens all across the province are hoping for an electoral breakthrough in 2013, with strong candidates such as Andrew Weaver, Adam Olsen and Party Leader Jane Sterk running in South Vancouver Island there are high hopes that West Vancouver might too be able to return a BC Green MLA. The Green Party of BC has traditionally had some of its highest showings in West Vancouver Sea to Sky coming in second place in 2001 and 2005, receiving 17 percent in 2001 and 27 percent in 2005. In 2009 the Green candidate Jim Stephenson came in close behind the New Democratic candidate by under 200 votes, capturing 23 percent overall. Hello, My name is Richard Warrington. I was born in England in 1957, the same year that my family emigrated to Canada. I grew up in a family of eight children and had the opportunity to experience both private and public schools. Most of my childhood was spent Victoria where we lived until moving to West Vancouver when I was in my early teens. After graduating from Hillside Secondary School, I joined the management training program with CIBC, remaining with them for some 10 years and seeing a large portion of the province in the process. Needing a change, I planned to attend university to study psychology. But I also wanted a break before starting a long course of studies so I set out on a backpacking Grand Tour of the Middle East and Europe. During my travels, I am certain I learned as much about myself as I did about the places I visited. Along the way, I met a Danish girl, who I followed to Denmark, married and had my two beautiful children with. I studied education and business there and taught school for a number of years. As often happens, our relationship did not last forever. So after my children were grown, and wanting to spend time with my parents, I decided to return home to Canada, first for a year-long visit and then later to settle permanently in Horseshoe Bay. During the time I spent in Denmark I saw, first hand, the positive impact that a socially and environmentally responsible government could have on society. This has had a profound influence on my perspective. Now, at this stage of my life and blending experience in business, family and social arenas, I feel I have something to offer the people of my riding and the province of BC. We live in a place of great beauty and have so much but we all know that there are some issues that need to be addressed. I want to represent West Vancouver Sea to Sky and make a productive contribution on their behalf. Regards, Richard Warrington
