[on skype] Session 3 (2013) Lecture 52 2 (April 23, 2013)

WHATS OUR GOAL OF LIFE

Have you determined your goal of life?

So many people .. So many goals

Is there anything wrong in it?

4

The thing thats wrong is . . . . These should be the steppingstones not the Goal
5

THEN WHAT SHOULD WE DECIDE AS A GOAL OF LIFE

?
7

We dont need to decide on it . . . WHY ?

8

BECAUSE. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN DECIDED AND DETERMINED BY OUR CREATOR

Which is ?
9

And I have not created the jinn and the human except that they should worship Me.
Al Quran 51:56 (Az-Zariyat).

10

Does worshiping Allah includes only Ibadaat like Salah, Zakah, Hajj etc. Worshipping Allah - To obey Allahs commandments and to do a thing that conforms with His religion just to please Allah. Anything done without the intention to please Allah subhanawatala is outside the loop of Allahs worship.
(162. Say: "Verily, my Salah, my sacrifice, my living, and my dying are for Allah, the Lord of all that exists.'') Al-Quran 6:162 (Al-Anaam)
11

If you are serious and sincere about achieving your goal then you need to plan out for that
Lets discuss one very important thing to keep in mind while you do the planning and that is what this hadeeth reflects upon: HADEETH

A man is upon the religion of his friend..

(Ibn Adi) Mishkat Masabih 1-552-195 W
12

HADEETH

Narrated Abu Hurayrah: The Prophet ( ) said: A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4833 Hasan (Al-Albani) (Abi Dawud 4815 thru another hadeeth index)

13

HADEETH

Narrated Abu Musa: Allah's Messenger ( ) said, "The example of a good companion (who sits with you) in comparison with a bad one, is like that of the musk seller and the blacksmith's bellows (or furnace); from the first you would either buy musk or enjoy its good smell while the bellows would either burn your clothes or your house, or you get a bad nasty smell thereof.
Sahih al-Bukhari 2101

14

Why is it so very important to be cautious about making friends?

15

To keep oneself safe from being among those who will say this phrase on the day of judgment .

Which phrase?
16

Ah! woe to me! Would that I had never taken such a one as a friend!
Al-Quran 25:28 (Al-Furqan)
17

What will be the cause of regret?

18

(27. And (remember) the Day when the wrongdoer will bite at his hands, he will say: "Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger.'') (28. "Ah! Woe to me! Would that I had never taken so-and-so as a friend!'') (29. "He indeed led me astray from the Reminder after it had come to me. And Shaytan is to man ever a deserter.'') (30. And the Messenger will say: "O my Lord! Verily, my people deserted this Qur'an.'')
23 29 Al-Quran 25:27-30 (Al-Furqan) 83
19

Conclusion?
What type of friends one should make

20

WE MUST LOOK FOR THE FOLLOWING QUALITIES IN A FRIEND

Who helps you follow the way of Rasool Allah (pbuh)

Who helps you in taking heed from Quran rather than ignoring it

Who makes you take guidance from Quran rather than treating it as an insignificant thing..

Al-Quran 25:27-30 (Al-Furqan)

21

While considering the features of a good or a bad company also keep an eye on self to know . . . CAN YOU BE CONSIDERED A GOOD COMPANY FOR OTHERS
22

"Oh! Would that I had taken a path with the Messenger.''

There are two conditions for deeds to be accepted:

Must be performed for Allah's sake alone. They must conform with the religion (method of the Messenger).
(Tafseer ibn Katheer)

HADEETH

The Messenger of Allah said, Whoever performs a deed that does not conform with our matter (religion), then it will be rejected.
Muslim (Tafseer ibn katheer)
23

Example: The good deeds of the priests and rabbis will not be accepted, even if they are sincerely for Allah alone, because these deeds do not conform with the method of the Messenger, who was sent for all mankind. Allah said regarding such cases,

(And We shall turn to whatever deeds they (disbelievers, polytheists, sinners) did, and We shall make such deeds as scattered floating particles of dust.) (25:23) (As for those who disbelieved, their deeds are like a mirage in a desert. The thirsty one thinks it to be water, until he comes up to it, he finds it to be nothing.) (24:39)
(Tafseer ibn Katheer)

24

Give some example of the deeds done by Muslims that are good but does not conform to the way of our prophet Mohammad (pbuh).

25

Example:

Doing good deed with Haram income.

Donatio n

26

Example:

Doing good deed to get admired (Hidden/minor shirk).

HADEES-E- QUDSI
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said that the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: Allah (glorified and exalted be He) said: I am so self-sufficient that I am in no need of having an associate. Thus he who does an action for someone else's sake as well as Mine will have that action renounced (rejected) by Me to him whom he associated with Me.
It was related by Muslim (also by Ibn Majah).
27

Doing good deed to make other feel obliged by repeated mentioning .

Example:

(264. O you who believe! Do not render in vain your Sadaqah (charity) by reminders of your generosity or by injury, like him who spends his wealth to be seen of men, and he does not believe in Allah, nor in the Last Day. His likeness is the likeness of a smooth rock on which is a little dust; on it falls heavy rain which leaves it bare. They are not able to do anything with what they have earned. And Allah does not guide the disbelieving people.)

Al-Quran 2:264 (Al-Baqarah)

28

He led me astray from the Reminder after it had come to me

The company influences you in an unfelt way. You wont feel how it changes you
Example:
You visit to a family for some days where the home environment is such that everyone is punctual in Salah. You also feel like praying it if you were not that regular.

While if you visit a family where there is no trend of praying salah, you also miss the prayers which you were somehow praying off and on. In such company time of Salah just passes while people remain busy playing cards or doing outing or visiting places etc.

29

You can easily appreciate the influence of a company in kids

30

Example 1:

Beware of the friends taking you towards SHIRK AND BIDDAAT.

31

Examples:

Shirkiya symbols

Takes you for amalyaat

32

Example 2:

Has it ever happened that you missed or almost missed the Salah because of the company of your certain friends or a friend. (in party, picnic, gup shup, shopping etc.)
33

Establish worship for My remembrance

Al-Quran 20:14 (Ta HA)

34

(18. O you who believe! Have Taqwa of Allah and let every person look to what he has sent forth for tomorrow, and fear Allah. Verily, Allah is All-Aware of what you do.) (19. And be not like those who forgot Allah, and He caused them to forget themselves. Those are the rebellious.) (20. Not equal are the dwellers of the Fire and the dwellers of the Paradise. It is the dwellers of Paradise that will be successful.) Al-Quran 59:18-20 (Al-Hashr)

(19. And be not like those who forgot Allah, and He caused them to forget themselves. Meaning, do not forget the remembrance of Allah, the Exalted, otherwise, He will make you forget to perform the good deeds that benefit you in your return, because the recompense is equated with the action. (Tafseer ibn katheer)
35

Therefore remember Me (by praying, glorifying). I will remember you

Al-Quran 2:152 (Al-Baqarah)

36

(70. And leave alone those who take their religion as play and amusement, and are deceived by the life of this world. But remind (them) with it (the Qur'an) thereby lest a soul should be given up to destruction for what it has earned.
Al-Quran 6:70 (Al-Anaam)

Help your friend if you really care

37

Example 3:

Do you want to get bankrupt because of your friend?

38

WHO THE REAL BANKRUPT

39

THE REAL BANKRUPT (MUFLIS)

The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) asked one group of his companions, Do you know who the bankrupt person is? They said, A bankrupt person amongst us is the one who has neither money nor property. The Prophet (pbuh) said, The bankrupt person of my nation is he who would come on the Day of Resurrection with prayer and fast and Zakah. And at the same time, he would come having abused (or insulted or offended) this one, and slandered that one, and consumed the wealth of the other unlawfully, and shed the blood of yet others and having beaten others. Then any person whom he has wronged will be given from his good deeds on that Day. And if his good deeds are exhausted until he clears the account concerning all of the people he has oppressed, the sins of those people whom he has wronged will be thrown unto his account and after that, he will be thrown into the hellfire. (Muslim)
40

See if you say stuff about others during your gossips when you sit with your friend which may put that other person down or which could be a slander.

41

42

REMEMBER

On the Day of judgment the only currency available will be ones deeds.
43

Allah clearly forbids to be in Suspicion with, to Spy on each other and to Backbite

(12. O you who believe! Avoid much suspicion; indeed some suspicion is sin. And spy not, neither backbite one another. Would one of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother, you would hate it. And have Taqwa of Allah. Verily, Allah is the One Who forgives and accepts repentance, Most Merciful.) Al-Quran 49:12 (Al-Hujurat)
44

The problem is not that we dont know how bad the Backbiting is but the problem is that most of us dont know WHAT BACKBITING IS.
Ign Ur

45 slp

HADEETH:
Abu Huraira reported: Allah's Messenger (may peace be upon him) as saying: Do you know what is backbiting? They (the Companions) said: Allah and His Messenger know best. Thereupon he [the Holy Prophet (pbuh)] said: backbiting implies your talking about your brother in a manner which he does not like. It was said to him: What is your opinion about this that if I actually find (that failing) in my brother which I made a mention of? He said: If (that failing) is actually found (in him) what you assert, you in fact backbited him, and if that is not in him it is a slander (tauhmat).
(Sahih Muslim Book #032, Hadith #6265)

46

HADEETH:

Narrated Abu Huraira: The Prophet (pbuh) said, "Beware of suspicion, for suspicion is the worst of false tales; and do not look for the others' faults and do not spy, and do not be jealous of one another, and do not desert (cut your relation with) one another, and do not hate one another; and O Allah's worshipers! Be brothers (as Allah has ordered you!")
Sunan Abu-Dawud Volume 8, Book 73, Number 90
47

HADEETH:
Narrated AbuBarzah al-Aslami: The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: O community of people, who believed by their tongue, and belief did not enter their hearts, do not back-bite Muslims, and do not search for their faults, for if anyone searches for their faults, Allah will search for his fault, and if Allah searches for the fault of anyone, He disgraces him in his house.
Sunan Abu-Dawud Book 41, Number 4862
48

HADEETH:

Anas bin Malik related that the prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said: On the night of my ascent to Heaven [Al-Mairaj], I passed by some people who were scratching their faces and chest with their nails which were made of copper. I asked Jibreel, Who are they? and he replied, These are the people who used to eat the flesh of other men by attacking their honor and respect.
(Abu-Dawud)

49

Allah orders not to laugh at each other and do not find fault with your own people nor call each other by (offensive) nicknames

O you who believe! No people shall laugh at (another) people, it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former). Nor shall women laugh at other women, it may be that the (latter) are better than the (former). Do not find fault with yourself (your own people), nor defame by calling each other by (offensive) nicknames: Evil is the name of wickedness after faith. And whosoever does not repent, and then such are indeed wrongdoers.) Al-Quran 49:11 (Al-Hujurat)
50

So what do you do when you are in a gathering in which some people are backbiting, slandering, ridiculing, making fun of others and talking Laghw (vain talk)?

51

Stop them if you can Defend your Muslim brother or sister Do not let it contaminate you
52

Do not join the bad company

And the servants of Rahman are those. and when they pass by what is vain they pass by it with dignity.
Al-Quran 25:72 (Al-Furqan)

53

Example 4:

VAIN TALK
HADEETH:

Ab Hurayrah relates that Allah's Messenger (peace be upon him) said: Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak a good word or remain silent.
[ Sahh al-Bukhr and Sahh Muslim ]

54

O you who believe! Fear Allah and speak a word that is right. He will set right for you your deeds and forgive you your sins. And whoever obeys Allah and His Messenger, he indeed achieves a great success.

Al-Quran 33:70-71 (Al-Ahzab)

55

Example 5:
See if your friends company is the reason why you are spending more (DOING EXTRAVAGANCE) example: Shopping with her, desire to have like her or better than her.

or

If its your company who is making your friend do so then its bad too.

56

(131. And strain not your eyes in longing for the things We have given for enjoyment to various groups of them, the splendor of the life of this world, that We may test them thereby. But the provision of your Lord is better and more lasting.)
Al-Quran 20:131 (TaHa)

57

Avoid competition

(20. Know that the life of this world is only play and amusement, pomp and mutual boasting among you, and rivalry in respect of wealth and children. (It is) like a rain (Ghayth), thereof the growth is pleasing to the tiller; afterwards it dries up and you see it turning yellow; then it becomes straw. But in the Hereafter (there is) a severe torment, and (there is) forgiveness from Allah and (His) pleasure. And the life of this world is only a deceiving enjoyment.) Al-Quran 57:20 (Al-Hadeed) 58

Do competition
Allah says:

(21. Race with one another in hastening towards forgiveness from your Lord, and Paradise the width whereof is as the width of the heaven and the earth, prepared for those who believe in Allah and His Messengers. That is the grace of Allah which He bestows on whom He is pleased with. And Allah is the Owner of great bounty.)
Al-Quran 57:21 (Al-Hadeed)
59

Al-Quran 102:1-2 (Takathur)

Tafseer Ahsan ul Bayyan

60

Compare

Al-Quran 102:1-2 (Takathur)

Al-Quran 57:20 (Al-Hadeed)

61

Serious lack of realization in the society

People do not offer salah, learn Islam, give time to their kids to make them good Muslims just because the time is being utilized in the job they do to fill the pockets with extra money. Its not ok unless one can manage the job while taking care of all the responsibilities one could be questioned for by Allah. Realize ,Time is Running out. Soon the life will end and graves will be the resting place. Example: ForAllah actress or a model. We sayus it applies (May forgive and guide all. Ameen )
For a doctor or a salesperson .. We think it doesnt HADEETH

(If the Son of Adam had a valley of gold, he would desire another like it...)
Sahih Bukhari (Tafseer ibn Katheer)
62

And do not act extravagantly

Al-Quran 6:141 (Al-Anam)

63

VERY DELICATE MATTER TO UNDERSTAND

Differentiate between your needs and wants

64

Islam is a religion of Balance

AHADEETH
Abu Ahwas narrated on the authority of his father: Once I went to visit the prophet (pbuh) while I was poorly dressed. He asked me if I had my wealth and I replied that I did. So he asked me what kind it was, and I replied that Allah had blessed me with every kind of wealth. At that he said, When Allah bestows wealth upon you, the effect of His grace and favor should be visible upon you.
Ahmad and An-Nasai

65

But
66

It doesnt mean we can start spending free-handedly

HADEETH

Amr bin Shuayb narrated on the authority of his father that the prophet (pbuh) said: When you eat, drink or give charity, let not EXTRAVAGANCE or Pride be mixed with it.
Ibn Majah and An-Nasai
67

Allsh says:

Say: Who has prohibited the embellishment of Allah which He has brought forth for His servants and the good provisions? Say: These are for the believers in the life of this world, purely (theirs) on the resurrection day; Thus We explain the Ayaat in detail for people who have knowledge. Al-Quran 7:32 (Al-Araaf) But He also says:

And the servants of Rahman are those And those who, when they spend, are neither extravagant nor stingy, but are in a just balance between them.) Al-Quran 25:63 and 67 (Al-Furqan)
68

Encouragement and incentives for being simple

HADEETH

69

Avoid competition except in two things:

HADEETH
Narrated Ibn Masud: I heard the Prophet (pbuh) saying, "There is no envy except in two (means not justified except in case of two persons): a person whom Allah has given wealth and he spends it in the right way, and a person whom Allah has given wisdom (i.e. religious knowledge) and he gives his decisions accordingly and teaches it to the others.
Sahih Bukhari Volume 2, Book 24, Number 490

70

Example 6:
See if the company you sit with is the reason why you feel discouraged to dress up the Islamic way.

When you have to start compromising yourself and your morals for the people you are surrounded by, its probably time to change the people around you

71

Example 7:

Friend who tells future and past reading your palm lines

72

Allah commanded His Prophet:

(188. Say : "I possess no power over benefit or harm to myself except as Allah wills. If I had the knowledge of the Ghayb (Unseen), I should have secured for myself an abundance of wealth, and no evil should have touched me. I am but a warner, and a bringer of glad tidings unto people who believe.'')
Al-Quran 7:188 (Al-Araf)

who could be more beloved to Allah then prophet . When he is unaware of the unseen except what Allah has given him the knowledge of, how can anybody else claim to have the knowledge of unseen including future and past and how do people believe on it. May Allah protect us from such an act. 73

Say: I do not say to you, I have with me the treasures of Allah, nor do I know the unseen (Ghayb), nor do I say to you that I am an angel; I do not follow aught save that which is revealed to me. Say: Are the blind and the seeing one alike? Do you not then reflect?
Al-Quran 6:50 (Al-Anam)

74

Only Allah Knows the Unseen

(59. And with Him are the keys of the Ghayb (all that is hidden), none knows them but He. Al-Quran 6:59 (Al-Anam)

(65. Say: "None in the heavens and the earth knows the Unseen except Allah, nor can they perceive when they shall be resurrected.'') Al-Quran 27:65 (Al-Naml)

(26. "The All-Knower of the Unseen, and He reveals to none His Unseen.'') (27. Except to a Messenger whom He has chosen, and then He makes a band of watching guards to march before him and behind him.) 75 Al-Quran 72:26-27 (Al-Jinn)

HADEETH:

Hafzah bint Umar narrated that prophet (pbuh) said:Whoever goes to a fortune teller to ask about the future will not have his prayer accepted for forty nights.
(Muslim)

76

Sometimes friend directs you to some fortune tellers saying he or she is the genuine one.

HADEETH Abu Bakr Al-Bazzar recorded from `Abdullah, which states, Whoever came to a soothsayer or a sorcerer and believed in what he said, will have disbelieved in what Allah revealed to Muhammad.
This Hadith has an authentic chain of narration and there are other Hadiths which support it. (Tafser Ibn Kaseer)
77

Dont acquire the company of:

Astrologer (on TV, facebook, phone and in Magazines)

78

Be very cautious
A person is a Fraud even if he is giving the knowledge of unseen using Quran as a tool in a manner the Quran is not meant for. These are the tricks and tactics they use.

(26. "The All-Knower of the Unseen, and He reveals to none His Unseen.'') (27. Except to a Messenger whom He has chosen, and then He makes a band of watching guards to march before him and behind him.)

Al-Quran 72:26-27 (Al-Jinn)

Example: Faal from Quran Use of Letters from Quran to predict things
79

Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true

80

HADEETH
Narrated 'Aisha: Some people asked Allah's Apostle about the foretellers He said. ' They are nothing" They said, 'O Allah's Apostle! Sometimes they tell us of a thing which turns out to be true." Allah's Apostle said, "A Jinn snatches that true word and pours it into the ear of his friend (the fore-teller) (as one puts something into a bottle) The foreteller then mixes with that word one hundred lies.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 7, Book 71, Number 657

81

HADEES

Narrated Abu Huraira: Allah's Prophet said, "When Allah decrees some order in the heaven, the angels flutter their wings indicating complete surrender to His saying which sounds like chains being dragged on rock. And when the state of fear disappears, they ask each other, "What has your Lord ordered? They say that He has said that which is true and just, and He is the Most High, the Most Great." (34.23). Then the stealthy listeners (devils) hear this order, and these stealthy listeners are like this, one over the other." (Sufyan, a sub-narrator demonstrated that by holding his hand upright and separating the fingers.) A stealthy listener hears a word which he will convey to that which is below him and the second will convey it to that which is below him till the last of them will convey it to the wizard or foreteller. Sometimes a flame (fire) may strike the devil before he can convey it, and sometimes he may convey it before the flame (fire) strikes him, whereupon the wizard adds to that word a hundred lies. The people will then say, 'Didn't he (i.e. magician) tell such-and-such a thing on suchand-such date?' So that magician is said to have told the truth because of the Statement which has been heard from the heavens.
Sahih Bukhari, Volume 6, Book 60, Number 324
82

People deserted this Qur'an

83

If you want to safe yourself from being in the situation of regretting on making certain friends, on the Day of Judgment, recognize the friends who may help you in taking heed from Quran rather that ignoring it. One sign of such person is that s/he talks about Allah and His deen (positively). On the contrary, a person who may take you away from Quran is the one who tries to avoid the topic of Deen , changes the subject or leave the sitting for a while till the topic changes, or sits with interest less face while the Topic of Deen is being discussed. Also important to see if you yourself fall in that category.
Allah describes the feature of righteous persons:

(73. And those who, when they are reminded of the Ayaat of their Lord, fall not deaf and blind .) Al-Quran 25:73 (Al-Furqan)
84

We mentioned that some people change the subject of Deen or leave the sitting for a while till the topic changes.

. . . .
Quran also talks about leaving the sitting and the changing of the topic

Lets see what Quran says:

85

[68. And when you see those who engage in false conversation about Our verses (of the Qur'an) by mocking at them, stay away from them till they turn to another topic. And if Shaytan causes you to forget, then after the remembrance, sit not you in the company of those people who are the wrongdoers.) (69. There is no responsibility for them upon those who have Taqwa, but (their duty) is to remind them, that they may (attain) Taqwa.]
Al-Quran 6:68-69 (Al-Anam)

86

What Quran says:

Sit not in the company of those who engage in false conversation about Allahs Ayaat (of the Qur'an) by mocking at them. You can sit again when they change the topic of their false conversation about Allahs Ayaat (of the Qur'an).

Commonly observed Practice

People try not to sit in the company of those who engage in good conversation about Allahs Ayaat (of the Quran). People leave the sitting where Allahs Ayaat are reminded and sit again when the topic of Deen and Quran is changed to

87

People who take Quran into no account or forsakes it, do the exact opposite of What Allah wants . Muslims must be very careful about the Hypocrisy of Actions (a very wide spread disease among Muslims).

Indicator
VERY IMPORTANT TO RECOGNIZE If you are yourself engaged in the practice of avoiding the talks about Deen you are neither a good company for others nor doing good to yourself.

88

Compare and decide for yourself whom you want to be friend with . . . A Momin or the one with features like Hypocrites

89

MOMIN

MUNAFIQ

(71. The believers, men and women, are supporters of one another; they enjoin good, and forbid evil; they perform the Salah, and give the Zakah, and obey Allah and His Messenger. Allah will have His mercy on them. Surely, Allah is AllMighty, All-Wise.) Al-Quran 9:71 (At-Taubah)

(67. The hypocrites, men and women, are one from another; they enjoin evil, and forbid the good, and they close their hands. They have forgotten Allah, so He has forgotten them. Verily, the hypocrites are the rebellious.) Al-Quran 9:67 (At-Taubah)

93

Hadeeth

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (pbuh) said: A woman is married for four things: for her wealth, for her lineage, for her beauty or for her piety. Select the pious, may you be blessed!.
(Interpretation , Riyad-as-salihin the book of miscellany Arabic/English book reference : Book 1, Hadith 364 (Al-Bukhari and Muslim)

94

Dont choose the one who is beautiful to the world; choose the one who makes your world beautiful (both the worlds)

95

The way you like is the way you choose

If our company is bad blame goes to us

96

Its never recommended to break the terms with any Muslim

97

But
98

Sometimes you need to distance yourself to see things clearly.

99

We do pray to Allah subhanao wa Tala for forgiveness of our, our parents and our familys and friends sins, open or secret, intentional or unintentional, past, present or future. And we seek His Mercy for His forgiveness and release from Hellfire and grant of Jannat ul Firdous.

Ameen.
