(www.lewistownhospital.org) located in Lewistown, Pa to lead the search for their medical
physicist. This is Rush Search Partners’ 212th search. Lewistown Hospital is a 139 bed
financially stable rural non-profit hospital. The department of radiation oncology is currently
expanding its services and thus has created this full time position. Currently the department is
constructing a second vault that will house the latest version linac and adding a Nucletron HDR
(including MammoSites) program. After the commissioning of the second linac the first will be
decommissioned. Currently 25-30 patients are treated with IMRT and 3d with ADAC and
DynArt. The hospital has a MRI and 16 slice Pet CT. You will join a dosimetrist that currently
works 3 days per week. As you can tell this is a very balanced position that will allow you to be
current with newer technologies but still allow the deserved work/life/family balance.

JOB DESCRIPTION: Under the general supervision of the Director of Medical Physics and at
the direction of the Radiation Oncologists, provides optimized computerized treatment
planning documents to Radiation Oncologists for review and selection. Confers with
Radiation Oncologists and Residents regarding patient disease to provide an optimal
treatment plan. Produces plan with pertinent instructions to accomplish patient set-up
documented on plan. Assists Radiation Oncologists in defining and localizing beam coverage
and target volumes. Utilizes optical disk, film digitizer or analog digitizer to input physical
patient parameters into treatment planning system. Constructs molds, casts, compensating
filters, and beam-shaping shielding devices to accomplish patient treatment and
reproducibility per computerized plan. Assists in the application of brachytherapy procedures
including high-dose rate applications, interstitial, hyperthermia, P32, and brain implants.
Oversees quality assurance monitoring, loading and transportation of radioactive material.
Performs quality management processes of the department including chart checks, dose
calculations, radiation monitoring, and equipment calibrations. Maintains skills to assess and
care for patients of all ages. Provides support and assistance for other medical physics
activities related to patient care and staff education. Participates in on-going research
projects. May be involved in the didactic and clinical supervision of medical physics students
and radiation oncology residents. Performs related responsibilities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master of science or PhD in medical physics with the
appropriate clinical training. Board certification requirements must be met within three years
of hire. Two years of experience in a clinical setting.

Description:
The Medical physicists provides quality control, regulatory and JCAHO compliance
testing of all therapeutic radiation therapy equipment in the Cancer Center. The
medical physicist provides technical assistance in the development of treatment

and non-ionizing radiation, ultrasound, lasers, magnetic resonance, electronics
and acoustics. Responsible for identifying the treatment, planning and monitoring
