Morgan: The Scandal That Shook Freemasonry by Stephen Dafoe Foreword by Arturo de Hoyos 6x9 Softcover 484 pages Retail Price: $26.95 ISBN 1-934935-54-9 Was William Morgan Murdered By Masons? On September 11, 1826 William Morgan was arrested for petit larceny and taken from his home in Batavia, New York to answer the charge. He never saw his home or family again. What became of Morgan after he was freed from a Canandaigua jail cell in the middle of the night forms the basis of one of the great unsolved mysteries of American history, made all the more mysterious by the circumstances that preceded it. Several months before his arrest, Morgan had begun work on a book on the Freemasons, a group with which he had recently had a falling out. The problem for Morgan and his book was that it sought to expose Masonic secrets, something the local members of the fraternity wished to prevent at all costs. This book is the story of William Morgan, his associates and the book they proposed to publish. It is the story of how a handful of young, impetuous members of the Masonic fraternity took matters into their own hands to prevent its publication and how their plans took a deadly fork in the road, nearly exterminating the very organization they sought to protect. It is also a book written by a member of the Masonic fraternity.

Haunted Chambers: the Lives of Early Women Freemasons by Karen Kidd 6x9 Softcover 274 pages Retail Price: $24.95 ISBN 1-934935-55-7

These women aren't supposed to have existed. But they did. "Haunted Chambers," for the first time ever, presents not only the most complete list of early women Freemasons but also as much detail about their lives as can still be found. Here are their stories, long suppressed, ignored and marginalized. They include medieval women stone cutters; so-called "adoptive" women Freemasons; an aristocrat; a countess; an early New Brunswick settler; a war hero; a writer of women's rights; an immigrant Irish girl; the famed sculptress of Abraham Lincoln's statue in the US Capitol Rotunda and many whose names are now lost. Some will find this book a challenge. Some would rather it never had been written, let alone published. "Haunted Chambers" is highly recommended to anyone who wants the actual history of these early women Freemasons and aren't afraid to read it.

The Freemasons Key Edited by Michael R. Poll 6 x 9 Softcover 244 pages Retail Price: $18.95 ISBN 1-88756-097-1 Symbolism is the language of Freemasonry. But what is symbolism? Why does Masonry use it? Who else has used symbolism? Some of the great minds in Masonic history (Albert Mackey, Joseph Fort Newton, Oliver Day Street, H. L. Haywood and more) answer these and other questions concerning the Masonic method of teaching as well as explain the symbolism of the Masonic degrees. This is an indispensable work for anyone seeking to better understand Freemasonry and its practices. Review by Edward L. King
"Mike Poll has developed a keen sense of 'what's needed' in the publishing of Masonic books. In this work, he's filled a HUGE gap that has existed practically forever. When one becomes a Mason, the very first thing they want to learn about is 'symbolism'. What does it all mean? What's behind it all? For several decades, the standard work to address these emergent questions has been Allen Roberts' The Craft and Its Symbols. This book will not take its place but it should easily become the SECOND reference for a new or inquiring Masonic mind. While Roberts has addressed the basics, relating them to each degree in a logical, patterned order, this work expands FAR beyond that and joins together essays from the best and brightest minds from the history of Freemasonry into a book which expands the richness of our symbolism in detail. Having these all in one easily handled volume makes it just SO much easier! This is not to say that these essays themselves are easy: they are, for the most part, ones to which you will return again and again over the years, each time finding new gems of thought-provoking stimulation. They approach the subject of Masonic symbolism from varying angles, allowing the rich prism to shine and glow in your mind. This is a book that has long been needed: I urge ANY student of Masonic symbolism to add it to their 'read this now' list and to their library immediately."

Outline of the Rise and Progress of Freemasonry in Louisiana by James B. Scot Introduction by Alain Bernheim Afterword by Michael R. Poll 8x10 Softcover 180 pages Retail Price: $24.95 ISBN 1-934935-31-X

This facsimile reproduction of the 1873 first edition is the granddaddy of modern Louisiana Masonic history books. Scot traces Louisiana Masonry from the organization of Perfect Union and Etoile Polaire Lodges until approximately 1870. Bitingly hostile remarks towards James Foulhouze (some taken from the works of Albert Pike) show the highly emotional climate of Louisiana Masonry in the late 1800's. While Scot sometimes allowed his emotions to get the best of him (slanting his objectivity), this long out of print work gives many valuable bits of information concerning the development of all branches of Louisiana Masonry. The Introduction, by Alain Bernheim, and the Afterword, by Michael R. Poll, are themselves significant Masonic historical works which add greatly to the collected knowledge of early Louisiana Masonry.

This 1853 publication by Charles Laffon de Ladebat shows the emotion, frustration, confusion and pain experienced by the Creole New Orleans Masons as a result of the Masonic "war" that was inflicted upon them.

Bessel, Past Senior Grand Warden of the Grand Lodge of Washington DC "I have used W. Bro. Michael's Masonic edition with much success in guiding the affairs of Masonic organizations. I have also used the Masonic edition to mediate disputes. I have even used the Masonic edition in a legal/evidentiary context in court proceedings. While W. Bro. Michael's Masonic edition of Robert's Rules of Order is not binding law in many Masonic jurisdictions, the Masonic edition of the Rules is a helpful guide for the efficient administration and governance of a fraternal organization. The Masonic edition of the Robert's Rules of Order is an excellent tool for any Masonic organization. Masonic Words and Phrases Edited by Michael R. Poll Softcover 116 pages Retail Price: $12.95 ISBN 1-887560-11-4 New Masons quickly learn that many unfamiliar words and phrases are employed in our symbolic teachings. Our words are not haphazardly selected, but have deep symbolic and historic significance. Masonic Word and Phrases is a wonderful collection of the most often used words and phrases in Masonry. Presented in an easy to read and understandable format, this work provides any student of Masonry with a clear understanding of the meaning of our many phrases and words so seldom used outside of Masonry. This work is valuable to the experienced Mason as a quick and handy reference guide. For the new Mason, however, it is an indispensable work and one that should augment any Masonic education program. Review
"Many of the words and phrases used in Masonry were borrowed from the craft guilds, from other languages, or from the philosophical vocabularies of the day. This book (which makes a fine companion book to "Masonic Questions and Answers," shown above, provides brief but clear explanations of many of the terms used in Masonic tradition and ritual. Often, Brother Poll goes beyond a surface meaning to show the history of the word, which makes it a richer experience. For an example, consider the entry for "Token." This is from the Greek "deigma," meaning "example" or "proof" - the origin of the word "teach", and in its original sense had much the same meaning as sign or symbol, for it was an object used as a sign of something else. It is generally used, however, in the sense of a pledge or of an object which proves something. In our usage, a token is something that exhibits, or shows, or proves that we are Masons the grip of recognition, for example. This is one of those basic books that belongs in every Lodge library." - Jim Tresner, Book Review Editor, The Scottish Rite Journal

"Ill. Brother Bessel has one of the most impressive Masonic rsums around. He has created a vast and very useful website (www.bessel.org). I went to it when I wanted to know how many Grand Jurisdictions had printed monitors, for example, and when I wanted to know the position of each state on dual and plural memberships. It is a great resource. Now he has written a book which is a good start for Masons and non-Masons alike. The book takes you through the three Degrees in a question and answer format. It is very helpful, especially for new Masons, and I have added it to my personal list of books to recommend to those beginning their Masonic journey. By the way, the book has an excellent section on Masonic resources on the Internet. Its worth the purchase price of the book just for that." Jim Tresner Book Review Editor The Scottish Rite Journal

Waite 6x9 Softcover 149 pages Retail Price: $16.95 ISBN 978-1-8875-6065-8 In the late 1800's, Leo Taxil gained considerable fame with his stories and claimed "proof" of the "evils" of Freemasonry. Waite exposes Taxil's claims as not only incorrect, but outright lies deliberately told by Taxil with the hopes of gaining his short-lived popularity. Knights & Freemasons The Birth of Modern Freemasonry Edited by Michael R. Poll Foreword by S. Brent Morris 6x9 Softcover 178 pages Retail Price: $16.95 ISBN 1-887560-66-1

Legendary Masonic authors, Albert Mackey and Albert Pike take us on an amazing venture from the days of the Crusades and the Knights Templar to the creation of modern speculative Freemasonry in a collection of inspiring papers. Includes the rare, The Order of the Temple by Albert Pike. Reviews
"Brother Poll is well known in scholarly Masonic circles as a writer, editor, and publisher. Dr. Morris is, of course, the editor of the Journal and of Heredom, the transactions of the Scottish Rite Research Society. His foreword is excellent, a clear capsulation of the historic and traditional approaches to Freemasonry and how great men change their opinions as their knowledge and understanding change. And the concept of the book is brilliant (wish I had thought of it): bring two of the greatest thinkers and students Masonry has ever produced into the same room (so to speak) and let them slug it out by seeing what each had to say on the topic. In this case, the topic is the Knights Templar and the origins of Masonry. We put this under the something old heading, because neither the question nor the opinions of Pike and Mackey are new. But the approach is, and I find new insights just in the juxtaposition. This is a good and comfortable book, crafted in an age when men knew words should glow like jewels in their settingsand both Pike and Mackey were master jewelers." -Jim Tresner, The Scottish Rite Journal

A.E. Waite: Words From a Masonic Mystic Edited by Michael R. Poll Foreword by Joseph Fort Newton 6x9 Softcover 168 pages Retail Price: $16.95 ISBN 1-887560-73-4 Few individuals exerted more influence in "esoteric Masonry" than did A.E. Waite. His hunger for the "hidden wisdom" of Masonry, as well as life, drove him to his studies of all matters esoteric. Respected as a scholar, magician and Mason of quality, his words drew praise from many, yet were controversial enough to draw a fair amount of criticism ... likely to Waite's delight. This collection of Masonic papers from A.E. Waite represents some of the finest thoughts on the "deeper aspects" of Masonry. Includes: "Discourse on the Fellowcraft Degree;" "Emblematic Freemasonry, Building Guilds and Hermetic Schools;" "Pillars of the Temple;" "The French Mystic and the Story of Modern Martinism;" "The Templars Orders in Freemasonry;" "Some Deeper Aspects of Masonic Symbolism" and more. This book will challenge your understanding of Freemasonry today and how it might transform for future generations. Reviews
There is no question that instant communication and the World Wide Web are changing the world rapidly and in unpredictable ways. It is also true that Lodges and Grand Lodges which do not make effective use of those tools are going to be left hopelessly behind. There is much good information in this book. It is worth reading. Whether it is a blueprint for the future, or a copy of the enemys battle plans, each will have to decide for himself." Jim Tresner Book Review Editor The Scottish Rite Journal

The Hidden Life in Freemasonry by C. W. Leadbeater 6x9 Softcover 194 pages Retail Price: $18.95 ISBN 978-1-8875-6065-8 If you are satisfied with regular business meetings and great fish fries, then this is NOT the Masonic book for you. This classic Masonic esoteric work is designed for the student seeking far deeper meanings in Masonry. In the words of the author: "Although the book is primarily intended for the instruction of members of the Co-Masonic Order, whose desire, as is expressed in their ritual, is to pour the waters of esoteric knowledge into the Masonic vessels, I hope nevertheless that it may appeal to a wider circle, and may perhaps be of use to some of those many Brn. in the masculine Craft who are seeking for a deeper interpretation of Masonic symbolism than is given in the majority of their Lodges ..." C.W. Leadbeater (1854-1934), was an English clergyman and respected theosophical author. Leadbeater is the author of the popular "Freemasonry and Its Ancient Mystic Rites." This is an indespensible work for the esoteric Mason. Foreword by Annie Besant. The Rainbow Mason Poems by Vladimir Levchev 6x9 Softcover 72 pages Retail Price: $11.95 ISBN 1-887560-68-8
The Rainbow Mason is a rich and rewarding work. "One of the privileges of writing a review column is being able to break your own reviews. You see, this is a column devoted to modern day pulp fiction and this title is certainly not that. It is a wonderful, exciting, extremely original children's book by the very talented Mr. Olson. Having had the pleasure of reading the manuscript before it went to the presses, I was only to happy to contribute a small cover blurb for this terrific story. And now that the book is out and marvelously illustrated by Debi Hammack, I want all you Harry Potter fans to go out and buy this. Eerey Tocsin is one of the most charming, amusing and daring heroines to come down the literary highway in years. This adventure is fast-paced, dark and mysterious and a through joy to read.
