"Thanksgiving Day" o Da de Accin de Gracias es una festividad que se celebra en Estados Unidos el cuarto jueves de Noviembre.

Orgenes del Da de Accin de Gracias

Cuando los peregrinos de Nueva Inglaterra llegaron a Estados Unidos fundaron la colonia de Plymouth (hoy conocido como Massachusetts) en diciembre de 1620. Se encontraron con los indios americanos de la tribu wampanoag.

El primer invierno fue duro. Los indios americanos ensearon a los peregrinos a plantar maz y otros cultivos, adems, les ensearon a cazar y pescar. En el otoo siguiente tuvieron buena cosecha de las semillas que haban plantado. Para dar gracias a Dios hicieron un banquete en donde integraron a los indios americanos que les haban ayudado a sobrevivir ese primer ao. Fue declarado un feriado nacional anual por el presidente Abraham Lincoln en 1863 para celebrarse en Estados Unidos el cuarto jueves de cada ao. En sus orgenes es una fiesta religiosa porque se le da gracias a Dios por todas las bendiciones recibidas. Es un da que los estadounidenses agradecen por la libertad de la que gozan, el techo, el hogar, los alimentos y los amigos que tienen. Las familias y amigos se trasladan de cualquier lugar donde se encuentren para reunirse a festejar este da. Se prepara una gran cena que normalmente consiste en pavo al horno relleno, salsa de arndanos, pur de papas, elotes, verduras. Uno de los ms populares es el pastel de calabaza. Ahora este da se celebra con reuniones familiares y de amigos. Se hacen desfiles en algunas ciudades para que las personas disfruten en familia. Algunos prefieren ver algn partido de televisin o disfrutar de una buena pelcula. Es un da que se aprovecha para la caridad y donaciones ya que se ofrecen comidas calientes a personas necesitadas.

There is prepared a great dinner that normally consists of turkey to the stuffed oven, sauce of cranberries, dads' mash, corncobs, vegetables. One of the most popular is the cake of gourd. Now this day is celebrated by familiar meetings and of friends. Parades are done in some cities in order that the persons enjoy in family. Some of them prefer seeing some party of television or to enjoy a good movie. It is one day of that he takes advantage for the charity and donations since they offer show restraint warm needy persons.
