This social studies lesson is designed for 1st grade students to learn about school life and school tools from the past. This lesson uses the 1st grade Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook School and Family (p. 202-205).

MONDAY week #1

H1.1.1 Describe local life long ago, including jobs, school, communication, transportation, and recreation. H1.1.1A Recognize local life long ago, including jobs, school, communication, transportation, and recreation

Print out 30 copies of the Vocabulary and study guide (Unit Resources, p.64) for each student.

This social studies lesson plan is designed for 1st grade students to learn about methods of transportations that were used in the past, and inventions that made transportation easier. This lesson uses 1st grade Houghton Mifflin Social Studies textbook School and Family (p. 208-211)

TUESDAY week #1

H1.1.1 Describe local life long ago, including jobs, school, communication, transportation, and recreation. H1.1.1A Recognize local life long ago, including jobs, school, communication, transportation, and recreation

Prepare supplies (markers, colored pencils)

WEDNESDAY week #1

This social studies lesson will teach students about local H1.1.3 Listen to histories of landmarks and their important local landmarks that importance to the community. create a sense of community This lesson uses content from among citizens. various sources and a guest speaker.

This social studies lesson will teach students about the landmarks around the world. This lesson uses a PowerPoint presentation and supplementary materials.

This social studies lesson will have students evaluate and describe the neighborhood and community. This lesson uses a read aloud book titled My Neighborhood: Places and Faces

FRIDAY week #1

My Neighborhood: Places and Faces book get from library H.3.1.1 Describe the neighborhood around their school. 30 of each: Construction paper Coloring pencils or crayons boxes

This social studies lesson will discuss routines and occupations of students and their family members. This lesson uses content from a read aloud book Horton Hatches the Egg.

H3.1.2 Compare and/or contrast their daily lives with those of their parents or guardians. H3.1.2A discuss the daily routines and occupations of parents or guardians.

Horton Hatches the Egg book get from library 30 of each: Legal size white paper Coloring pencils - boxes

TUESDAY week #2

This social studies lesson is designed for 1st grade students to learn about the different kinds of community helpers. This lesson uses the book Career Day by Anne. F. Rockwell.

H3.1.3 Identify and describe occupations in the community that help people, i.e., police officers, fire fighters, and nurses.

Make sure to have chart paper read y and checkout The book Career Day by Anne. F. Rockwell.

This social studies lesson is designed for 1st grade students to learn about having respect for each other and people in the neighborhood. This social studies lesson requires a short demonstration to show how you cant take back harmful words.

WEDNESDAY week #2

H3.1.4 Demonstrate respect for each other and people in the neighborhood.

Make sure to have the toothpaste and paper plates ready. Print out and cut up situation paper slips.
