Existing safety measures and people at risk

The incense sticks are burnt inside a container, they are not loosely out in the open. Everybodys common sense is an existing safety measure when we everyone will be filming in the bedroom. None of Joes tyres are flat or soft, he also has a motorcycle license.

Hazard Severity 5= Very high (multiple deaths) 4= High (death or serious injury) 3= Moderate (injury or disease) 2= Slight (minor injury) 1= Nil (no risk) 0= Not Applicable

Likelihood of occurrence 5= Very high (100% certain to occur) 4= Likely (small change = accident) 3= Quite possible (may happen) 2= Possible (low or minimal risk) 1= Not likely (no risk present) 0= Not applicable

Hazard Type 1. Fall of person from height 2. Fall of object or material from height 3. Fall of person on same level (e.g. slip or trip) 4. Manual handling (includes: pushing, pulling, lifting and carrying) 5. Use of machines 6. Operation of vehicles 7. Fire, including that which can be caused by static energy 8. Electricity or electrical equipment 9. Drowning 10. Excavation work (where this is part of the task) 11. Stored energy (e.g. elastic cords, hydraulic and air pressured systems) 12. Explosions (e.g. from chemicals or dust) 13. Contact with excessively hot or cold surfaces 14. Compressed air or gasses 15. Mechanical lifting operations

Hazards posing significant risk Fire- Incense sticks being knocked over of falling over if left on an unstable surface unattained.

Fall of person on the same level- Tripping over the mess (which would be purposely set-up in the composition to add effect) on the bedroom floor, including wires and cables from technical equipment.

To prevent the incense sticks 14th April. from causing a fire, we will make sure one of our group members is constantly watching it whilst the other takes over on concentrating on what is coming out on the camera and how each shot is turning out. We will take turns in this, so whenever someone wants to record the next shot or a specific shot that they would like to take over of and shoot they will, whilst the other watches the incense sticks. The severity of injury is high so we must be very cautious. However, the chance of this occurring and causing an injury is low as it is not likely that this will happen, especially if someone is always watching it. To prevent anyone tripping over 3rd April. whilst inside this room, we will instruct everyone to be cautious of their surroundings. we will make sure everyone looks before they step anywhere. Whoever is shooting each shot must make sure they look at

their feet when switching to a new shot and not be looking through the camera and only focusing on what is coming out on the screen. The severity of injury this hazard could cause is medium to high. That is because if somebody just falls on the floor without latching onto technical equipment and hurt themselves, they may only get a bruise and nothing severe. However, if someone trips over cables from technical equipment and they smash on the floor, that is a lot of money worth of equipment that we will have to end up paying if we break or damage. The chance of this occurring is medium, because although everyone will be cautious, anyone may easily get carried away with what they are doing and forget to watch where their feet are going. Fall of person on the same To prevent muddy ground level- Motorbike loosing grip related accidents with the from the muddy grass motorbike, we will check the grounds (at outdoor ground up to where Joe has to shooting location) or loads of ride it, to become aware of soft mud being splattered around mud patches or areas that need on everyone and everything to be avoided. The severity of e.g. equipment around Joe injury is quite high because it (on the motorbike). may mean Joe could fall off the motorbike and hurt himself quite badly if it lands on top of him or anything similar. Even if it doesnt lose grip and just splatters mud, the rest of the cast can get muddy and we wont be able to shoot the film, so it will be a day wasted and our project delayed. Electricity or electrical To prevent any damage equipment-There will be accidents with the equipment it cables everywhere will be outlined that everyone is (especially in our indoor to be very cautious and wary morning scene) of our that there will be cables hanging electrical equipment which is around and spread across the extremely expensive and if floor, so that they need to think someone lurched onto any about their actions before

of it and they drop it on the ground or if any non-wired equipment such as the tripod with the camera on it falls on the ground or someone accidentally damages it, they will have to be paid for.

moving around, especially when we are all in the bedroom, shooting the morning scene. Also, everyone will be made aware that to capture some shots the tripod may need to be placed I some awkward positions so movement will be limited. Noise-As we will not be the As both crew members will be only residents in the house occupied with setting-up the for the morning scene, we scene and filming neither will be will have to ask James able to look after and keep the parents at home to stay animals quiet. Therefore, all that quiet and maybe turn off we can do in this case is we will their televisions if they can need to ask the parents, who be heard by our microphone. may not be very understanding They may refuse to and if and not take care of them as we this is the case then some have asked. When shooting the unrelated to our film sounds outdoor meeting scene there and noise will appear in our will undoubtedly be a lot of film. Also, there are dogs uncontrollable noise such as which may bark and cats wind, birds, and cars. We cannot which can also make noise control these to a great extent (through meows and but we will use a blimp to cover scratching the bedroom door our microphone so speech is still as that is what they usually heard but without strong wind do), whilst we are shooting noises. We will also find an area inside. where we are not too close to cars so that they are not very loud but still visible in our shots. Adverse weather conditions- We will ask our cast to bring As we will be shooting many layers of clothing as well outdoors, UK weather is very as big and thick coats to stay as unpredictable and the warm as possible and hoods or weather could affect our umbrellas in case it starts to filming. It may state that itll rain. We as the crew will bring be a clear day but instead an umbrella for shielding begin raining all of a sudden. equipment in case of a rainfall Also, as it is being shot and gloves and scarves to keep during one of the coldest warm. If someone has a thermos months of Winter, very low flask, we will make a hot drink in temperatures and strong it to act as a source of heat. The winds are likely. Getting severity can be moderate, in the hyperthermia case that it rains and ruins our desired filming outcome or the severity of injuries can be high as we can get hyperthermia which can be really dangerous. So we will keep an eye on everyone to make sure nobody

Lighting levels-Shooting outdoors requires relying on the weather which may change unpredictably. It may be very dark in one shot then extremely bright in another. This may ruin the continuity of our film as if it is brighter one second, then it gets darker, then it goes brighter again within second-long shots, it would not look realistic.

Confined spaces-for our morning scene we will need to shoot inside a bedroom of a normal sized house. All of the electrical equipment as well as two crew members and an actor are to squeeze into one room so it will be over-crowded as everything will need to be fitted in to the section of the room behind the camera, the fourth wall which the

gets that cold, if they do we may need to wrap up shooting before finishing time. As our first scene is a morning 17th February 2013. scene in the films time, the lighting in it will need to be representing the light in the morning to convince the audience, as if it is too dark, because it has been filmed too late in the day then it would look very wrong. Also, if it is shot over a series of days rather than just one day due to time restrictions and the fact that it needs to be filmed at the same light level, if it has gradually became darker one day, we will need to film another to have the same level of light. Natural hazards in the outdoor meeting scene cannot be changed or controlled. We will try our best to film on a day which is forecasted to be sunny with mainly clear skies. Also we can alter the ISO speed on our camera as and when we feel that it is needed; the camera we are using also has an alarmer setting which begins flashing if the ISO speed is not correct. Checking this alarm will keep our films light levels balanced. If all else is not uncontrollable then we will try to sort this out in post-production by balancing the light in Final Cut Pro. This will be a challenge that we 3rd April. overcome by firstly outlining that this will be the case when filming this scene so everyone will need to pay very close attention whilst were shooting the morning scene. We will not rush through this scene due to the small working area so that no damage is done to the equipment and no harm is done to anybody.
