A. Summary of the Lesson Plan: Students will continue learning about the symbols that represent the United States. Students will focus on learning about 5 additional national symbols. B. E. Procedure: 1. Review that the flag is a symbol of the United States. 2. Ask students if they think the United States can have more than 1 symbol. 3. Show students a picture of a bald eagle. Ask students if they know what this bird is and if it means anything to them. 4. Explain the bald eagle is the national bird of the United States. It is also a symbol. It represents strength and freedom for the U.S.A.

5. Show video American Symbols PhotoStory starting at 3:28. Students will have their worksheets American Symbols to work on during the video. Walk through number 1 on the worksheet together using the bald eagle as the example. Pause the video after each symbol to discuss and give time for the students to write down information. Only review information under materials section. 6. Class discussion after video. What did they like? What are their thoughts on the United States symbols? 7. Students will complete the Matching Symbols Worksheet independently. 8. CLOSURE: Talking chips with their group naming one of the symbols we learned about in class. F. Assessment: What will you use to measure student understanding? The Matching Symbols worksheet will be used as the assessment. Explain how you will know students understand the concepts from the lesson. I will check to see if students are able to match the name and picture of the symbol correctly. I will also be able to see if students met the objective by their completed symbols worksheet where they need to name 5 symbols that represent the United States.
