final days of Jesus from His Last Supper to
My Dear People:
Today begins the holiest week of the year.
The reading of the passion of Jesus reminds
us of the Lord’s willingness to reach beyond
our imagination in the process of making an
offering to the Father for our sins.
The Tridiuum starts on Holy Thursday when
we celebrate the Lord’s Supper. There will
be a Mass at 5:00 p.m. for the elderly and
anyone else who cannot come at 7:00 p.m.
The full ceremony of the washing of the feet,
procession and adoration will occur at the
7:00 p.m. Mass. This liturgy commemorates
the institution of the sacrament of the
Eucharist and the institution of the
priesthood. The Eucharist continues the
offering of Jesus on Calvary until the end of
time. St. Paul said, “As often as you do this,
you proclaim His death until He comes.”
Good Friday is literally called “good” even
with the brutal and violent suffering of Jesus
because it was “good” for us. By Jesus’ act
on this day our sins can be forgiven. We
strongly encourage church attendance…but
if that is not possible, there should be the
realization all day that this is a solemn day of
penance and devotion of the sufferings of
Jesus.
On Holy Saturday, the Easter Vigil is the
traditional time, anticipating the Feast of the
Resurrection, when converts are brought into
the Church. The baptism of converts reflects
the scriptural reference to “rising with Christ”
through baptism.
The Feast of the Resurrection must be a
celebration of victory and a celebration of
joy. His enemies thought they had won
because Jesus appeared defeated by the
most humiliating death. So, when our Lord
came back to life, it was sheer victory for
Him…and for us, for we are positioned to
follow in His wake.
May we relive with the rest of the Church the
His glorious resurrection and reap the great
spiritual benefits from this union with Him
during these days.
This past Wednesday was Author’s Day at
OLS School. The children wrote books (yes,
hard cover with designs and illustrations). It
was covered by the Birmingham News as
well as Channel 6.
At the student assembly, I gave the
invocation and said a few words about
recognizing talents given by God and most
especially recognizing the writings from God,
the Sacred Scriptures. These seventy-three
writings of the Bible have been called God’s
love letters to us because they speak of the
love relationship between the Almighty and
us. God is always faithful in this relationship;
but humans have a record of leaving and
coming back…and being taken back by God.
The ultimate relationship arrives with the
coming of His Son to offer Himself in sacrifice
for our sins and His rising to show us the
reality of the life after death. During this
coming week we will read in church so much
from God’s book. The Bible has become the
best seller of all time.

The Chapel of Our Savior
The Chapel will be closed for the Holy Triduum
beginning April 9th, Holy Thursday, at 3:00 p.m.
until Easter Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
NOON MASS
There will be no noon Mass on Tuesday, April 7th,
as all priests will be attending the Chrism Mass at
the Cathedral of St. Paul.
Eucharistic Adoration
Sign up sheets for Eucharistic Adoration on Holy
Thursday are located in the vestibule. Adoration
will be from 9:00 p.m. until midnight in the
Church.

High School Youth Group meets on
Wednesday nights from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and on
Sunday mornings from 10:00 -11:15 a.m.
Come to meet friends, eat, and learn about the
faith!
Junior High Youth Group – 6th, 7th, and 8th
grade will not meet again until April.
The OLS Youth Group will be sponsoring the
movie The Passion of the Christ. It will be shown
on Wednesday, April 8th, at 6:30 p.m. in the
Parish Hall. Light refreshments will be served.

There will be no PSR and
Growing with God classes
next Sunday, April 12th due
to Easter. Classes will resume on Sunday, April
19th.
Vacation Bible School-Register today for OLS
Vacation Bible School-Discovery Canyon-which
will be June 8-12th from 9:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m.
This is for children going into K4 through 4th
grade as of August 2009. Registration forms are
located in the front entrance of the Church. Final
registration is May 19th.

Beginning Experience ministry is a support
group designed for grief recovery and personal
growth for the divorced, widowed, and separated
of this community. Beginning Experience
ministry is Christian-based, interdenominational
and all are welcome. BE is a levels program with
4 levels running simultaneously each 10 weeks.
The next session begins on Tuesday, April 14th at
6 p.m. The meetings are held in the Family Life
Center. The cost for the 10 weeks is $25.00.
Childcare is provided at no cost.
Because the first Tuesday
in April falls during Holy
Week, there is a new date
for V.I.P. Please join us on
Tuesday, April 14th, at 11:00 a.m. in the Parish
Hall. There will be Mass, followed by lunch and
bingo.

Our Lady of Peace Guild will meet on Monday,

Our Lady of Sorrows Taste of Tailgating-The
Our Lady of Sorrows PTO would like to invite you
to their spring fundraiser event “Taste of
Tailgating.” The event will be held on Saturday,
April 25th, 2009, from 7:00 p.m. – 11:30 p.m.
Tickets are $30.00 per person and can be
purchased at the OLS School office (879-3237).
The event includes tailgating food, a cash bar, a
live band and both live and silent auctions.

Join the fight against cancer with Homewood
Relay for Life, April 17 from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. at
Homewood Park. Money raised by the teams
goes to the American Cancer Society for cancer
research, education, advocacy, and support
programs. Come see honorary chairman, Coach
Pat Sullivan, and participate in fun family events
such as yoga, marshmallow roast and self
defense classes throughout the night. Volunteers
and teams of people will walk along a track to
support the fight against cancer. Survivors are
honored and those lost to the disease are
remembered with a luminaria ceremony.

Raising Dollars for Scholars 3rd Annual
Luncheon to benefit Holy Family Cristo Rey
Catholic High School will be held on April 17th.
This year’s Luncheon and silent auction will be at
the Harbert Center from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Healing Service at Our Lady of Sorrows
Frank Kelly, who has a healing ministry, is
coming to Our Lady of Sorrows Church on Friday,
April 17. Mass is at 7:00 p.m. followed by his
witnessing and teaching, then praying over each
individual. Msgr. Martin M. Muller is the
celebrant. Frank has a book called Short Circuit
to God and all proceeds are sent to missionary
priests in India and Ghana to help the poor. All
