INTRODUCTION

We believe that Milan 2012 will be a vintage year for a number of reasons. Cosmit has a tremendous offer at the Fiera, with EuroCucina and 15 years of Salone Satellite and they will be unmissable. Installations in the city hosted by Cosmit such as skybook at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana of Milan will be worth a detour. During the journey, visitors will enter a new and visionary world, where books will talk to each other. We are really proud to be involved in the debut of MOST, a new design epicentre taking over the entire Museum of Science and Technology. Only minutes away from Rossana Orlandi, it will comprise of 30 participants instigated by Tom Dixon. At MOST, we cannot wait to see Faye Toogoods Cura installation, The Soda Stream bar by Yves Behar and Dror for Tumis PASSAGGIO curated by Wapping Project supremo Jules Wright. La Chance, a new design company from Paris everyone is tracking are exhibiting with some of the hottest young designers from around the world and if anyone gets bored there are lessons in making ice-cream from the Carpigiani Gelato University! In the city, we also look forward to visiting the districts. Ventura Lambrate is maturing and will host Lee Broom for the first time, alongside other favourites of ours including the RCA and Jaime Hayon. Zona Tortona has a strong offer this year and we are delighted that Merci will be participating for the first time in partnership with Paola Navona. Additionally, Bisazza has moved into Via Savona along with Established & Sons. Baccarat will be in the Palazzo Morando again, this year with Patricia Urquiola. FLOS celebrates their 50 year anniversary and will also launch their app for iPad. Kvadrat is hosting two events, one in particular, which will take Milan by storm, celebrates their Hallingdal fabric in the Jill Sander space. Finally dont miss Kartell Goes Rock! Lenny Kravitz and Phillipe Starck collaborate on a stunning installation and series of chairs in the city centre and at the fair. We look forward to seeing you in Milan! Judy Dobias

The SaloneSatellite turns 15

An important moment in the life of the event dedicated to designers under 35: this year the SaloneSatellite celebrates 15 years of commitment and faith in young creativity. And it unleashes the uncontainable exuberance of a teenager with the knowledge of being the first such event to dedicate special attention to young designers, and of being the place where all those designers have wanted to be since its first edition, there adjacent to the adult Salone del Mobile, living proof of their hopes and dreams may one day come true. This year the SaloneSatellite looks toward the future through the theme Design<->Technology: a felicitous pairing reflecting the ways that technology plays an ever greater role in our everyday lives and inspires the world of design. The first homage of the SaloneSatellite to technology is necessarily in honour of Steve Jobs, pioneer of the contemporary world, maker of dreams, the man who taught us to believe in the possibilities of the union of technology and creativity. There are many designers who have participated in the SaloneSatellite over the years, present in the form of 15 pieces which have since gone into production by major manufacturers 15 interpretations with which, in addition to investigating the theme of the event, each designer recounts their own professional experience since debuting at SaloneSatellite. Good things always come in three, and that applies to this Award, which in a very short time has become highly sought after by young designers. Award ceremony I Saloni-SaloneSatellite Award Wednesday, April 18th, 1.00pm, ARENA SaloneSatellite A presentation by Paola Antonelli, Senior Curator of the Department of Architecture and Design at the Museum of Modern Art in New York, who will tell us about the exhibition she staged there last year, Talk to Me. Design and the communication between People and Objects, dedicated to the various systems and mechanism and strange technological contraptions that enable and/or generate contact between people and objects. Wednesday, April 18th, 2.30pm, ARENA SaloneSatellite. Design talk moderated by Fabio Novembre It Takes a Bric(k) to Build a House with the designers Sebastian Errazuriz (Chile), Mann Singh (India), Gabriele Meldaikyte (Lithuania-participant to SaloneSatellite Moscow), Pedro Paulo Franco (Brazil), Zuo Yan (China) e Shahira H.
