INTRODUCTION
We believe that Milan 2012 will be a vintage year for a number of reasons. Cosmit has a tremendous offer at the Fiera, with EuroCucina and 15 years of Salone Satellite and they will be unmissable. Installations in the city hosted by Cosmit such as skybook at the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana of Milan will be worth a detour. During the journey, visitors will enter a new and visionary world, where books will talk to each other. We are really proud to be involved in the debut of MOST, a new design epicentre taking over the entire Museum of Science and Technology. Only minutes away from Rossana Orlandi, it will comprise of 30 participants instigated by Tom Dixon. At MOST, we cannot wait to see Faye Toogoods Cura installation, The Soda Stream bar by Yves Behar and Dror for Tumis PASSAGGIO curated by Wapping Project supremo Jules Wright. La Chance, a new design company from Paris everyone is tracking are exhibiting with some of the hottest young designers from around the world and if anyone gets bored there are lessons in making ice-cream from the Carpigiani Gelato University! In the city, we also look forward to visiting the districts. Ventura Lambrate is maturing and will host Lee Broom for the first time, alongside other favourites of ours including the RCA and Jaime Hayon. Zona Tortona has a strong offer this year and we are delighted that Merci will be participating for the first time in partnership with Paola Navona. Additionally, Bisazza has moved into Via Savona along with Established & Sons. Baccarat will be in the Palazzo Morando again, this year with Patricia Urquiola. FLOS celebrates their 50 year anniversary and will also launch their app for iPad. Kvadrat is hosting two events, one in particular, which will take Milan by storm, celebrates their Hallingdal fabric in the Jill Sander space. Finally dont miss Kartell Goes Rock! For 2012, Herms unveils an interior space with MODULE H, a modular system of architectural elements to decorate walls and create partitions, imagined by Japanese architect Shigeru Ban. Showcased in Milan under the aegis of the International Furniture Fair, the Herms show space has been designed by Shigeru Ban on via San Carpoforo 9 (Brera). During the fair, Herms will also be showing its full collections for the home, as well as its new furnishing fabrics and wallpaper collection at its new permanent home showroom in Milan: via Pisoni, 2 (on the corner with via Manzoni).

Wallpaper* has again assembled an international cast of star designers, craftsmen and makers to create a spectacle, epic in scale and ambition. Be amazed as Lernet & Sander put Brioni on film; Alfredo Haberli lights a fire under the Barbie; Jouin Manku craft an atelier on wheels; David Rockwell gets busy with the Lazy Susan; and Paul Cocksedge makes a stand for print.
7. ROSSANA ORLANDI

Spazio Rossana Orlandi is an annual highlight of the fair with Orlandi making it her mission to discover all that's new and original in the world of design. Housed in a former tie factory Spazio Rossana Orlandi is part gallery, part retail space and part restaurant. This year BOOO studio presents an innovative collection of design lightbulbs by Front Design, Nacho Carbonell and Formafantasma. The main collection is designed to not need an additional light fitting or lamp shade meaning the lightbulb becomes the lamp which incorporates new LED technology.

The Italian manufacturer will celebrate its 60th anniversary this year at the fair, presenting another ambitious installation at its showroom, called The Way of the Water Dragon. The project is by Chinese architect Zhang Ke, who is principal of Standardarchitecture in Beijing. Visit the Salone fair grounds to see Morosos new sofa collection by long-time collaborator Patricia Urquiola, along with a Nendo glass side table, and a soft-seating collection by Doshi Levien called Chandigarh.

Material Matters: A Future Furniture Fair features 20 design companies, both real and imagined. This fair aims to inspire designers to develop alternative business models urged by material scarcity and economic upheaval. Taking part in Domus Open Design Archipelago, the collective laboratory previewing the future of design is located at the beautiful Palazzo Clerici.

It is run by a young woman from Campania. Gatt is a particular place, created in 2004 by a simple desire to do something new. Inside you will find the root of Naples, a bite of France, a bit of that warm disorder offered by the Mediterranean and its beautiful islands.

Apart from the art space there is also the HB Art Bookstore and the HB Bistro which is furnished by Contempo, so you can eat your salads and crepes while sitting on big metal stools.

Designed by the architect Paola Navone, inside you will find a mixture of contemporary and tasteful vintage design pieces. All the ingredients are homemade, which makes the cooking simple and natural, and there is an interesting choice of wines to choose from. This restaurant is an enchanting and relaxed place to enjoy a fine Mediterranean menu.
BISTRO DA GIACOMO
Location: Via Pasquale Sottocorno 6, Milan Contact: 02 7602 2653 www.giacomobistrot.com Bistro Da Giacomo offers a 7 day a week service from lunchtime to two in the morning, serving dishes mainly based on meat and game. This three room restaurant interconnected by beautiful arches and a gentlemans club-style bookcase is a great stop after the theatre or a late work night.

The food is chosen according to excellent quality, locality and seasonality.

This is housed in a 17th century palace and has some of Italy's most impressive collections of medieval and Renaissance artworks. One of the best paintings to seek out is The Dead Christ by Andrea Mantagna also superb paintings by Raphael and Carravaggio. It is closed on Mondays, but otherwise open from 8.30am - 7.15. 3. EXCELSIOR
The new Excelsior luxury shopping concept store features fashion, accessories, jewellery, beauty, interior design and find food. It is located in a space formerly occupied by the Excelsior cinema. Another places to seek out while in the store is 'East's Store' a hot spot in gastronomy with an innovative concept, the restaurant being divided into three areas, from fine take away to slow food. 5. PECK
No trip to Milan is complete without a trip to Peck and it is perfect to visit for gifts to take home. A cross between Fortnums & Mason and Dean & Deluca, it has beautifully presented cabinets of pasta, chocolate, coffee and Italian delicacies. 8. THE DUOMO
It is worth allocating time to visit the Duomo, especially now that it has been magnificently restored. The origins date to 1330 and it marks the centre of the city. It is the largest cathedral in Italy and the fourth largest in the world. It is also well worth climbing the stairs to the room (you can also take the elevator) to see the gargoyles and statues up close. If you happen to be there on a Sunday, go inside and it is wondrous and full of incense.

In the heart of Milan's fashion district you will find the new Longchamp store which is its first global concept store last month Two-hundred and fifty square meters on three floors, one of which is dedicated to the pret-aporter lines and to the footwear collections. By the end of a long week, you might be seeking a spa treatment and there a number of places that are very relaxing.
