JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Reports to: Hours: Location: Job Purpose: To ensure the Charity has can effectively monitor and evaluate service and organisational activity and track progress towards meeting organisational goals. The role will also enable the Charity to assess the quality and effectiveness of services in meeting the needs of people with XXX and provide intelligence to inform future service development and campaigning activity. 1. The Policy and Campaigns Team provides expert policy advice to the charity on XXX and XXX, develops clear evidence based policy positions on XXX issues and campaigns to improve the quality and availability of XXX. The team is also responsible for the monitoring and evaluation of the Charitys services and other key organisational activity. 2. Organisation chart

Duties and key responsibilities Monitoring To ensure robust mechanisms are in place to monitor services and key organisational activity. To collate accurate service activity data from across the organisation. To provide analysis of service activities across the organisation. To produce timely and accurate reports on services and organisational activity for the Operations & Marketing Communications Leadership Team and the Senior Management Team.

Evaluation To ensure appropriate methodologies are used to evaluate services and organisational activity. To carry out evaluations of key service activity in order to measure client satisfaction, quality and the impact of services on people affected by XXX. Carry out analysis of evaluation data. To present evaluation findings and recommendations in clear and concise reports for the Operations & Marketing Communications Leadership Team and the Senior Management Team.

Research To undertake specific research projects to inform the Charities knowledge of the needs of people affected XXX, service development and track progress against organisational goals. To support the Head of Policy and Campaigns to commission and manage research carried out by external agencies. To ensure the Charity is up-to-date on key psychosocial research related to XXX across the UK.

Internal Research and Evaluation Support To ensure findings of monitoring, evaluation and research activities are disseminated and communicated to relevant staff across the charity. To inform the Policy and Campaigns Team of service activity trends and data relevant to policy and campaigns activity. Support other members of the Policy & Campaigns team to conduct research to inform policy positions and campaigns. To ensure the Charity is using up to date statistics on the incidence, prevalence and mortality of XXX across the UK. Provide evaluation and research advice to other teams across the Charity.

Internal & External Liaison To maintain effective working relationship with the Head of Services and Service Managers in order to ensure that monitoring, research and evaluation projects meet the needs of the Charity. To respond to internal queries regarding the findings of research and evaluation activities. To develop and maintain relationships with civil servants, charities, and researchers to ensure the Charity has access to up to date statistics, data and research related to XXX. To represent the Charity at external meetings.

General Responsibilities Contribute to team meetings and organisational priorities. 2

PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Policy Officer (Research and Evaluation)

This person specification sets out the essential, minimum qualities we are seeking for this post. Please ensure that your application demonstrates how you meet the criteria. You may include voluntary, unpaid and paid work. Criteria . Proficient in analysing large datasets using statistical programmes. Clear and succinct report writing skills, including the ability to present complex research information in a user friendly way. Project management skills and ability to work to tight deadlines. Communication skills, including an ability to communicate and express ideas clearly and assertively with a wide range of audiences Public speaking and presentation skills to a wide range of audiences Ability to analyse and summarise academic research, and judge relevance to the organisation. Ability to make decisions and take judgements. Ability to build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders including civil servants, XXX professionals and researchers. Advanced skills in the use of computer software packages for data analysis, including SPSS (or equivalent), Microsoft Excel and databases. Experience Experience in a research, evaluation or data analyst role within the voluntary, public or academic sectors. Experience of designing and carrying out research using qualitative and quantitative methodologies. Experience of analysing and interpreting quantitative and qualitative research data. 4

Experience of developing and managing large scale data-related projects.

Education, training, qualifications Knowledge Knowledge of national sources of statistical health data. Knowledge of data protection regulations and research ethics. Educated to degree level with a research component or equivalent experience.
