JOB DESCRIPTION Job title: Reports to: Responsible for: Head of Research Management Director of Operations and Marketing Communications Staff: There are no staff currently managed by the post holder Budget: The post holder will be responsible for the Research Management and Research Grants budgets Hours: Location: 37.5 hours/week. Job Purpose: Based in our Operations and Marketing Communications Department, the Head of Research Management will manage The XXXs expanding and extensive programme of XXX research. The post holder will lead on the operational and strategic development of the programme by ensuring that the grant application process is efficient, promoting the research programme internally and externally and supporting the ongoing review of the programmes priorities and direction maximising the impact of the Charitys research investment.

Duties and key responsibilities: Research programme Manage the Charitys grant application process ensuring that the Charity receives high quality applications for funding and that applications are appropriately peer reviewed Support the work of the XXX ensuring that XXX membership remains high calibre, meetings are organised in a timely fashion and XXX members receive appropriate information to support them in their role Evaluate the impact of the research funded by the Charity and develop ways of using this information to promote the Charitys work and improve the management and focus of the research programme Develop a communication plan to ensure that research funded by the Charity and the research programme are promoted internally and externally (e.g. writing articles, working with the media team on research stories, working with colleagues in fundraising to develop funding proposals, speaking at events on behalf of the Charity) Provide a first port of call for enquires to the Charity about the Charitys research and research programme (for example, from prospective applicants or peer reviewers) Represent the Charitys research programme externally networking with researchers, XXXs and others, including supporters and lay people Stay abreast of developments in XXX and XXX research generally at the national and international level ensuring that the Charitys research programme is informed by emerging trends and developments

Strategic management and planning Lead on the development of the Charitys Research Strategy ensuring that the Strategy is regularly reviewed and updated and that the Charitys profile within the UK and, where relevant, international, context is continually strengthened Support the Chief Executive and Senior Management Team in developing and producing strategic and business plans and working with them to develop a planned work programme for the Charity Co-ordinate and direct the management and delivery of organisation-wide strategic projects and initiatives relating to research Develop, foster and maintain effective relationships with all relevant external stakeholders and organisations.

Line management There are currently no staff directly managed by the Head of Research Management . When additional staff resources are approved, over time, the job holder will provide effective management and leadership, and conduct performance and development reviews of staff managed by them, to ensure motivated performance, high quality service delivery and achievement of the business plan

Budget management Ensure the proper management, reporting and reforecasting of the Research Management and Research Grants budgets, and participate in budgeting and financial management at departmental level as required

General Responsibilities Contribute to team meetings and organisational priorities Be proactive in keeping up to date with developments affecting the role Carry out other associated duties as may arise, develop or be assigned in line with the broad remit of the post Abide by organisational policies and practices, and the Charitys XXX values Support diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace

PERSON SPECIFICATION Job Title: Head of Research Management

This person specification sets out the essential, minimum qualities we are seeking for this post. Please ensure that your application demonstrates how you meet the criteria. Criteria Skills and Abilities A facilitative approach to leadership, with the capacity to support the Senior Management team Written communication skills, with particular attention to detail. Verbal communication skills to communicate clearly with a wide range of people e.g. scientists, clinicians, fundraisers, lay members of XXX Advisory Groups and members of the public. Networking skills Project management skills Ability to understand and communicate research and scientific concepts clearly Proficient in Microsoft packages, including Word, Excel and databases Criteria tested at Application Interview Test

Experience

Extensive experience in research administration Experience of communicating complex scientific concepts to a wide range of audiences Experience of working with databases and spreadsheets

Education, training, qualifications Knowledge Knowledge of the national and international research landscape (preferably related to XXX research) A graduate with a degree involving a XXX research component (preferably a PhD)

Other requirements Desirable

Knowledge of research governance practice Knowledge of data protection and IPR practice Support diversity and equality of opportunity in the workplace

Experience of working in the voluntary sector Project management qualification
