POSITION SALARY

Policy Officer (UK and EU Regulatory) XXX - XXX

MAIN TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES The XXX plays a key role in promoting the need for XXX and XXX in the UK to be adequately funded, and works to achieve a favourable fiscal and regulatory environment for the National Governing Bodies of XXX. It also seeks to ensure that XXXs remain the key regulatory authority within their XXX, and that they are empowered to make decisions with regard to their core technical and intellectual capital. Operating within a highly focused policy team, the Policy Officer will work to develop favourable outcomes for XXX and XXX in the above areas. Particular responsibilities will include: Scrutinising emerging policy, proposals, legislation and strategies which may impact on XXX and XXX either positively or adversely from the UK and Europe Leading policy work in areas such as taxation, the National Lottery, alcohol and music licensing, XXXs betting, Community Amateur XXXs Clubs, Gift Aid, etc. Developing and maintaining effective contacts in appropriate government departments, agencies and member XXX and XXX organisations, and with supportive Parliamentarians Developing and maintaining effective relationships with the European Commission, UK Permanent Representative to the UK, European Olympic Committee (Brussels Office) and other European XXXs organisations. Developing and maintaining effective relationships with European Parliamentarians as appropriate Drafting documents for XXX members including briefings, e-newsletters and web updates Working with key partner agencies and individuals to develop proposals to improve the regulatory environment for XXX. Representing XXX and/or providing secretariat support on formal groups as appropriate. (Current groups include XXX and the XXX). Any other duties as reasonably required by Line Manager

PERSON SPECIFICATION The Policy Officer must demonstrate the ability to: Communicate effectively in face to face situations with a range of people including XXX members, Parliamentarians, civil servants and agency colleagues Read and understand complex documents (e.g. Parliamentary Bills and Acts, governmental strategies and action plans) and distil from these the key implications for XXX members Draft concise, accurate and convincing documents (e.g. briefings, reports, Select Committee submissions and consultation responses) for a range of audiences including XXX members, Parliamentarians, civil servants and agency colleagues Participate in formulating policy proposals in advance of, and in response to, legislative developments Be perceptive as to how XXX can most effectively present its case on specific issues, given prevailing social and political trends Manage a range of tasks effectively, meeting tight deadlines with high quality work Work effectively within a small and highly focused team, responsible for delivering a key aspect of the XXXs mission Be proficient in Microsoft Office applications

The Policy Officer must demonstrate knowledge and understanding of: Political and Parliamentary processes and how XXX can best use these to further its policy work How social and fiscal policy impacts on XXX and XXX, and how investment in XXX and XXX can in turn contribute to a healthy and prosperous nation The European institutions and how XXX can best use these to further its policy work The role and remit of National Governing Bodies of XXX, and other XXX organisations
