XXX JOB TITLE: YOUTH ASSISTANT TEAM: XXX YOUTH GROUPS LOCATED: XXX HOURS: 6 hours per week (2 evenings) RESPONSIBLE TO: YOUTH WORKER PURPOSE OF POST: 1. To run (with the support of another youth assistant) evening youth groups for young people with learning disabilities and additional support needs 2. To run (with the support of another youth assistant) evening main stream youth clubs for young people RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES 1. To assist young volunteers to run two established youth clubs. One for young people aged 13 19 with learning disabilities, the other for young people aged 13 - 19 who require additional support to participate in activities. This includes facilitating the groups and ensuring they are youth led as well as carrying out activities that are age/need appropriate and service user centred. 2. To set up and run open access evening youth clubs and supervise sessions encouraging positive participation in a variety of activities including cooking, team games, using computers, music, conversation and sport. Support the Worker in Charge to plan all sessions, carry out paperwork and evaluation, recruit members/volunteers and oversee all groups. To promote equality and diversity in all aspects of the work. To create a warm, safe, welcoming environment for young people. To create opportunities for young people to explore issues that are important to them and enable them to make more informed choices about their actions and their lives. To comply with all of XXX policies and conditions of service as laid out in the Staff Handbook and amendments. To ensure a positive working environment and to assist in the general running of the organisation. All employees and volunteers are expected to work as a team by actively sharing and exchanging information across the organisation, attending staff meetings when asked and working together with other staff when roles and interests overlap. To undertake training as required and agreed through supervision and to build up specialist knowledge. To be mobile within the area of operation and be willing to work with some flexibility to most appropriately meet identified needs. To be aware of the Health and Safety at Work Act and other legislation as appropriate, with particular reference to equal opportunities legislation, sex and race equality. Salary: XXX per hour

SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE Essential Ability to work with young people in a variety of settings Good communication skills with a variety of people Ability to identify the interests, needs and aspirations of young people and successfully develop these Ability to work as part of a team and on your own initiative Preferable Knowledge of current legislation that applies to working with children and young people Experience of motivating young people to participate in community activities Experience of working with diverse and hard to engage groups Experience of working with people with disabilities or additional support needs.
