THOUGHTS FROM BRAD

As Summer approaches I grow more excited as it affords opportunity to get outside and enjoy the weather. Here are a few dates to keep in mind as you plan out your family activities I will offer a new small group at our home on Kanawha Drive entitled: Unstuck. This group will meet for 5 weeks on Sunday night and will begin May 19th. See Brad for details! Family Retreat at Round Lake (Memorial Day weekend). Several of our church members go every year and find it enjoyable as the camp has a wonderful lake for swimming, boating and fishing. There is always good programming to enjoy as speakers challenge you and worship encourages you as you praise our God. For more information, go to www.roundlake.org. I also want to encourage our parents to get their children and teens involved in a week of camp at RLCA. The lifetime of memories and the spiritual challenge will bring your child home refreshed and renewed in their faith. Again you can find their summer schedule on their website at www.roundlake.org. On June 20th, we will travel to Cincinnati to watch the Reds play the Pirates for a 12:35 game. Ticket prices will be available in the weeks to come as we begin signing up for the trip. On July 5th, the Reds farm team, Louisville Bats will play the Columbus Clippers. We will travel to Huntington Park for a 7:15 game. More details to come!

BITS FROM BRO. DAVE

SENIOR SAINTS IN THE SMOKIES: This is the

last mention I will make of this event. Registration is still possible but this week is probably the deadline. A great program is planned on the Johnson University campus (Knoxville, Tn.). Marshall Leggett is guest speaker and the Florida Boys are singing. The date, again, is May 27-31! The eight registered, so far, will be traveling in one of our church vans. Travel to and from the event always provides a great time of fellowship. If you have questions or would like registration information, see me! You can view a poster on our main bulletin board.
COMING TRAVEL ADVENTURES: This summer

we are planning another of those see how they make it tours. On June 26, were going to Jackson Center, Ohio to see how they build Airstream trailers. Then, of course, there will be a trip to Amish country for food and shopping. On October 17, we will be going to the LaComedia Dinner Theater to see a third installment of The Church Basement Ladies. (Youll need to sign up and pay for this one early!) Watch for details and sign-up sheets for these and other events.
SUNDAY EVENINGS IN THE SANCTUARY:

I want to ask all our church to pray daily for the future of this church. As we have now transitioned to the fellowship hall for our second service, we anticipate meeting new individuals and families but it will take a lot of effort on everyones part to see that happen. Think of who you know that might benefit from a contemporary service who does not attend church services anywhere. Again, our changes are happening all for the glory of God and it is He alone that we offer our praise. Thanks for praying, Brad

This week (May 5) our character in the Friends of Paul series, will be Philip, The Evangelist. Next week, we will have a special guest speaker. On May 19, we will complete this series with a study titled Demas, The Defector. If you are not involved in a small group, on Sunday evenings, I encourage you to join us. Communion is available for those who desire. Please be reminded that we now have activities for children each Sunday evening.
WEDNESDAYS: Last week (May 1), we began a

new series of lessons on the book of Colossians. We, actually, only covered the introductory material and a part of chapter 1. I want to invite you to join either the 10:00 am or 6:30 pm study groups. We cover the same material in each session. Maybe the eyes are the windows of the soul, but that still doesnt mean the mouth is the door to the brain.

Last week in Childrens Church we learned about Moses. He trusted God even though he did not understand Gods plan. Sometimes we have to trust God blindly and trust that His plan is good. I find myself all too often, trying to take matters into my own hands instead of trusting God. This is our first week having our childrens programming upstairs on the 3rd floor! The Childrens Ministry Team and I are very excited about this transition and hope that you are too! If you have any questions about this transition, do not hesitate to ask me! I wanted to say a quick thank you to each of my Sunday morning Team Members: Josh Czich, Chris Crook, Marie Huffman, Tracy Eldridge, Noah Hinson and Tyler Hendricks. Thank you all so much for everything you do, you are making a difference in the lives of these kids every week! If you are interested in joining our Childrens Ministry Team, contact me at hannahatfifth@gmail.com. Hannah ************************** Thank you so very much to everyone who attended my housewarming/graduation party last Sunday! I cant explain how incredibly blessed I feel! I was blown away by the turn out. It is so comforting to know that I have such wonderful people here who love and support me. It feels like I have a family here even though I am so far away from home. Thank each and every one of you for everything you do for me! I am one blessed girl to be a part of this congregation, surrounded by great people.

SCOTTS THOUGHTS
Were on a mission from God In the church community today there is a word being thrown around quite a bit. This word is missional. The concept is not new, but the term is kind of a hot topic. What it means is pretty simple to understand. To be missional is to be focused on the mission and willing to lay aside anything that does not further the mission. The purpose of the church, the commission we have been given, is to make disciples. Our work is to serve that purpose. Our gathering together to study, pray, worship is not just so we attain biblical knowledge and get charged up to make it through another week. Our Sunday school classes and small groups are to help equip us to make disciples. Our worship is to honor God and to make Him known among all people, even our communion is intended to remind us of the importance of our mission and to proclaim the Lords death until He comes again. The church was never intended to play defense. Our job is to take the gospel to the world, make disciples and teach them to take the gospel to the world, make disciples and repeat the process until the whole world hears that Jesus died for us and wants to give us new life. As we move to the basement, there will be change, refinement that will be ongoing. This is not intended to be a new tradition, but a staging ground and a training facility. If some aspect is not effective in equipping each other to carry the gospel, it will be revised. While this congregation has a great history, God is not finished with us yet. We cannot pretend we have arrived. The mission is not completed. Souls need Jesus. We know the power of the gospel. Gear up. Study up. Pray up. And press on. We are on a mission from God. Philippians 3:13-14 (NIV) 13 Brothers and sisters, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, 14 I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.

Mandie and the Forbidden Attic by Lois Gladys Leppard is a book for young teen readers. What can be causing the mysterious noises in the school attic? How can Mandie and her friends find out without getting into more trouble? Mandies investigation leads to a very surprising discovery! Borders of the Heart by Chris Fabry is a book for adult readers. Every life has a turning point, where one choice changes everything. Once that line is crossed, theres no going back. J.D. Jessup finds his line in the desert near Tucson, as far from his home as the moon. Hes traded his guitar and the songs in his head for the daily grind of an organic farm a mind-numbing existence that dulls the pain of his memories. His boss has one rule: if J.D. sees an illegal, call Border Patrol. But when an early morning ride along the fence line leads him to Maria, a beautiful young woman near death, J.D.s heart pushes him toward another choice. Longing to atone for the mistakes that drove him to the desert, J.D. hides her and unleashes a chain of deadly events he could never have imagined. Soon the two are running from a killer and struggling to stay alive. As the secrets that haunt him collies with Marias past, J.D. realizes that saving her may be the only way to save himself. Core Values...
Values central to the life, mission and vision of Fifth Avenue Church of Christ are:

Sermon Notes ________________________

Christ-Centered Worship
We make it a priority every Sunday to celebrate Jesus through our music. (Romans 11:36-12:1-2). We focus on Jesus through grace-based preaching and teaching & understand the Bible is our authority (2 Timothy 3:16).

Church Health and Biblical Balance

Church health becomes reality when God's people seek harmony & live consistently. We expect every member to protect the unity of Christ's Church. (Romans 12:16; 1 Peter 3:8)

Global Evangelism
We are constant to our founding call to worldwide evangelism, proclaiming to all that Jesus Christ is the Savior, Healer, and Soon-Coming King (Acts 20:27).

Fellowship and Ministry

After people begin their journey with Jesus, we will equip them to find a ministry based upon their strengths. We want everyone to serve in some capacity. (1 Corinthians 12:12-27) We also want His church to be the living evidence of His love and power to the world.

How Can I Respond Today?

At FACC we look to the Bible for guidance on all issues. We believe that Gods Word is clear concerning what a person must do to become a Christian. Trust that Jesus can bring you to salvation. Turn (repent) from the sin in your life. Confess your desire to make Jesus the Lord of your life. Be baptized (immersed) in water for the forgiveness of sins and to receive the Holy Spirit into your life. To make this life decision for Christ, we ask that you come forward during our commitment song at the conclusion of the Sunday message. Baptized believers are welcome to become members at FACC by coming forward on Sunday morning or by seeing our Senior Minister to discuss this further. We ask that you complete a series of Curious classes to help you better understand what you are committing to as a member.

Discipleship
We do not want you to "get religion" here at Fifth Avenue Church of Christ in Lancaster. We are all about teaching you that Jesus seeks a daily relationship with Him through a life of obedience. In other words, we want to see the things you are taught actually change your lifestyle & your daily decisions.

Social Conscience
We place high value on the sanctity of human life, of Biblical marriage and morality, and we welcome ethnic diversity (Isaiah 56:7; Philippians 2:15-16).
