B) Assignment Requirement: You are required to refer to the case attached Eastern Gear, Inc. from Operations Management Contemporary Concepts and Cases, Roger Schroeder et al, 5 th ed., MaGraw-Hill, pages 434 - 436. Then, you are required to answer the following questions. 1. Critically review the process design concept of Eastern Gear, Inc., using a suitable business operations model. (35 marks) 2. Recommend an alternative layout design for Eastern Gear, Inc. to further improve its operations. Draw the layout(s) with appropriate labels and justify it with suitable objectives. (25 marks) 3. Discuss the manpower utilization in Eastern Gear, Inc. in relation to appropriate Total Quality Management (TQM) principles. (25 marks) Note Another 15 marks are reserved for other elements, such as the quality of executive summary, introduction, conclusion, references, page layout, grammar and vocabulary, word count etc. (Total: 100 marks)

Page numbering: Ensure that the contents page accurately reflects the position of the contents. Page numbers prior to the introduction should be roman numerals. From the introduction onwards page numbering should be Arabic. Bibliography/references should be listed according to the Harvard convention with the authors listed in alphabetical order. Each reference should have the following format: Authors last name, initials, [year of publication], title of publication, publication details. e.g. Porter, M.E. F) Assignment Assessment Criteria The criteria below detail the areas which will be taken into account when the assignment is marked. 1. Pass assignments are expected to be legible, tidy, well organised and written in clear understandable English. The report should include an executive summary or abstract at the beginning and end with clear conclusions and recommendations. Evidence of reading and some understanding of models and concepts is needed to achieve a pass grade [50%]. If you have any problems with report formats please do not hesitate to contact the module lecturer. Integration of theory and practice is expected for any grade above 50%, besides the requirement in item (1) above. High grades [70%, 75%, +80%] need to demonstrate sustained coherent analytical ability. A systematic approach to analysis and evaluation is required for grades 60% to 70% - for grades at the higher end of the scale, integration and synthesis is a requirement.
