Statistics for testing the correlation between Pinky Size and Ear Size
R (correlation coefficient) = 0.2429 Ear Size (cm) = 5.680432 + 0.1327248 Pinky Size (cm)
We didnt run into any difficulties or surprises during our project. After looking at all the data and statistics, it seems like there is no correlations between pinky size and ear size. After comparing the R value of 0.2429 with the critical value of 0.288, there is not a statistically significant relationship between pinky size and ear size, r (48) = .2429, p > .05. The distribution of ear size was skewed right and the distribution of pinky size was sort of normal. I believe we answered the original question and have determined that there is no correlation between pinky size and ear size of men between the ages of 20 and 40. The variability seems too great to consider any sort of relation. One might infer that for any male in that range, that ear size is not related to pinky size. For the most part I feel that our sample accurately reflects the population because the variability is so great. If I were to repeat this project, the two differences I might make are to get a greater sample size, maybe 100, and I would only pick men with either detached or attached earlobes, since that genetic factor could make up the difference in ear size and therefore skew the data.
