Personal Marketing Statement:

How would you describe yourself, what you have accomplished and why an employer should hire you? See examples below:

Example:
Skilled Problem Solver I have the unique ability to see simple solutions to complex problems, resulting in: increased production, efficient new processes and increased morale, with no loss in quality. Expertise includes working with Fingerhut corporate silos: marketing, merchandising and creative, on multiple business teams that led to significant increases in revenues while reducing outside costs. At GEM Minneapolis, my expertise resulted in a 30% reduction of outside costs in 2006, achieved by increasing internal productivity. Entrepreneurial/Startup Experience Previous experience with two business startups requiring business plans and marketing strategies, communication materials, administration and sales skills (Time Star Company and Brian Richards). Established a successful freelance business, Christensen DESIGN, Ltd. Founded a national fine arts organization dedicated to a renewal in the visual arts with a focus on representational painting. This organization grew to several thousand supporting members and held major exhibitions. I published books (biographies about nationally recognized painters) and the organization's magazine, Classical Realism Journal. As a result of these experiences, I bring an entrepreneural perspective to whatever I do. Fundamentally, I look for ways to do what we do (the group, department, division or company) faster, better and cheaper, while keeping an eye on the market and competition, and taking care of my people. Operations Experience includes managing catalog production groups and a large photo studio facility (65,000 sq. ft.). Both include vendor contract negotiations and relations. I'm adept at developing processes and improving them, resulting in improved efficiencies and reduced costs. Finance/Budgets Extensive experience in developing and managing corporate budgets, outside cost control and vendor negotiations. Experience with facility downsizing requiring liquidation of assets through various channels: auction, eBay, industry contacts, donations to nonprofits and open-to-the public sale. Management Experienced creative department manager with a proven track record as an outstanding leader and personnel manager. I excel in creating a positive work environment where great creative work flourishes, talent shines and excellent work is recognized. Superior organization and administrative skills consistently result in significant cost savings. I have a "stealth" management style: working behind the scenes taking care of obstacles, hurdles, and personnel issues, as well as ensuring those doing the work have the right tools, and regular and appropriate feedback with recognition for work well done. Creative Skilled at concept, layout and execution of catalog design for a variety of brands: Fingerhut General Merchandise catalogs, Fingerhut Lifestyle catalogs (sub-brands) that include sporting goods, home electronics, home improvement tools, backyard living and unique gifts; Berlitz/Fingerhut joint venture travel catalog; United Health Group, Essentials Catalog marketed exclusively to AARP members; United Health Group, Ovations catalog marketed to boomers; River's End contract apparel wholesale catalog, and others. Previous freelance design experience included logo development, print advertising, email letter promotions and sales materials. International Experience Led creative development and production of joint venture with UK-based Universal Stores. Responsibilities included visiting contracted UK vendors for printing, mailing and order fulfillment.

SOAR Stories (please provide a minimum of 8, more is better)

Example:
Situation/Opportunity: I was hired to manage the one catalog account the agency had and was challenged to grow this business. Fingerhut contacted us in October, 2002, to execute their first 200-page Christmas catalog after being out of business for 9 months. We had three weeks to execute a project that normally took 12 weeks. Action: I pulled together a freelance team primarily composed of ex-Fingerhut art directors, writers, production artists and proofreaders. I also took steps to recover as much archived information as possible, and established workflow processes between us and Fingerhut merchandising, marketing and IT divisions. Result: We met our deadline and were awarded a contract as Fingerhut's creative department agency of record. This became an $8M account for our agency.
