ALPHA NATURAL RESOURCES (FORMERLY MASSEY ENERGY COMPANY) Richmond, VA Massey Energy Company was the fourth largest coal supplier for domestic and overseas. The company was a 7.8 billion dollar company. With the merger of these two companies, Alpha Natural Resources has 14,000 employees and is currently the third largest coal supplier in the nation. Director, HR Benefit Programs, February 2006 to March 2012 Responsible for all benefit programs, including union and non-union retirement programs with assets in excess of $400 million, health plans, disability programs, and supplemental benefit programs for over 6,000 employees in multiple states. Selected as one of twenty-five Massey employees to represent Massey in the integration with Alpha. Managed all corporate benefit programs with a staff of three. Developed all benefits-related processes for internal HR team, created Human Resources training manual for benefit program administration and conducted training sessions for HR personnel and senior management across the company. Established corporate benefits communication strategy, including multiple versions of personalized annual Total Compensation statements for over 6,000 employees, benefits brochures in English and Spanish, monthly benefit tips brochures and 365 day benefit tip desk calendar. Implemented, designed and coordinated the companys first open enrollment across three states and over eighty locations.
