Safety changes to yellow cats eyes

The Department of Transport and Main Roads is progressively changing the colour of cats eyes on centre line markings along state-controlled roads across Queensland to improve safety. Its part of a national initiative to make the roads centre line clearer in low-light conditions such as in rain, fog and at night. The new Australian Standard practice of using yellow raised pavement markers is being rolled out over three years from 2009 following successful trials in southern Queensland and interstate. Motorists should always stay left of the yellow markers so they remain on the correct side of the road. This also means roads with more than two lanes may have three different colours of markers (yellow, white and red) to help delineate the lanes and give motorists clear guidance on where to safely drive.
