Harbour

I N D U S T R I E S
High Performance Wire & Cable

Founded in 1965, Harbour Industries’ vision was to fill the gap between the demand for high quality,
high performance wire and cable and the supply available at the time. The military's stringent require-
ments for quality wire and cable shipped in a timely manner were the formative guidelines for today's
Harbour. Attention to detail and a respect for the customer's needs have enabled Harbour to grow in
markets that demand quality, consistency and availability.

Throughout it’s history Harbour has stressed the importance of an efficient, productive manufacturing
facility. A number of moves and property acquisitions have taken place, propelling Harbour to the forefront
of the Mil-Spec wire and cable industry. Today Harbour boasts TFE extrusion capacity unparalleled in
North America, extensive jacketing lines and high speed braiding equipment to support a wide range of lead
wires; shielded and jacketed cables; and coaxial cables. Additional product lines include silicone rubber
insulated mil-spec wire and cable and corresponding UL/CSA styles.

Harbour’s mission statement is to remain competitive while continuing to develop processes and procedures
to ensure compliance with all mil-spec wire and cable requirements. Harbour’s reputation for quality, con-
sistency and a strong technical orientation has resulted in approvals for a variety of military constructions.

Since its first day producing mil-spec wire and cable, Harbour has recognized the importance of meeting
the needs of government suppliers. Today Harbour also understands the importance of maintaining this
focus as many manufacturers have designed systems using mil-spec requirements independently of any
government agency. This has increased the importance of ensuring the ability to produce “obsolete”
specification material and transitioning to commercial versions of those items.

Ultimately quality is the goal and focus of Harbour Industries. Certified to ISO-9001, Harbour’s quality
system ensures that what we manufacture meets or exceeds our customer’s requirements for product
quality, performance and delivery.

Conductor Material
C = Annealed copper S = Copper clad steel H = High strength copper alloy

Color code
A three digit code is used to indicate the color of the wire and any identifying stripes. The first digit is the
color of the insulation, the second and third digits indicate the color of the first and second stripes, where
applicable. The number of color codes contained in the part number also indicates the number of conductors
in the cable.

In the example above there are three conductors, all of which have white insulation. The stripes on the first
conductor are black and yellow, the stripes on the second conductor are black and orange and on the third
they are black and red.

Type of cable covering

Jacket color for M55021 is white unless otherwise specified. Shields, when applied, are constructed of the
same conductor materials as the base wire.

Mil-C-17 Coaxial Cable
QPL Approved
Single braid Double braid

Triax Twinax

Harbour supplies a complete line of high temperature, high performance QPL approved MIL-C-17 coax cables for the military,
commercial and industrial applications. The specific M17 constructions referenced are manufactured in accordance with the most
recent revision of the MIL-C-17 specification. The MIL-C-17 specification defines complete physical and electrical characteristics
for each M17 part number, including dimensional parameters, dielectric materials, shield construction, maximum attenuation,
and VSWR levels.

VSWR Sweep Testing

When selecting a 50 ohm coaxial cable, constructions with VSWR requirements are recommended. Manufacturing and sweep
testing cables with concern for VSWR ensures a quality cable free of spikes over the referenced frequency range. (Note the test
frequencies specified in the electrical characteristics section.)

Precision PTFE Dielectrics

All of the high temperature, high performance coax cables listed have PTFE dielectrics with high dielectric strength and low
capacitance in proportion to the dielectric constant. All PTFE dielectrics are manufactured with tolerances tighter than the
MIL-C-17 specification to ensure uniformity of electrical characteristics, especially impedance, attenuation and VSWR.

Tape wrapped PTFE Constructions

Harbour also manufactures PTFE tape wrapped cables to a previous revision of the MIL-C-17 specification. These constructions
can withstand operating temperatures up to 250° C. versus 200° C. for FEP jacketed cables. Also, PTFE tape wrapped cables are
generally more flexible than their FEP jacketed counterparts.

UL Approvals
All of Harbour’s M17 part numbers manufactured to the MIL-C-17 specification may be ordered with UL and FT4 approvals.
