Pinellas County Health Department Indoor Air Quality Program

Thank you for your interest in the Pinellas County Health Department (P.C.H.D) Indoor Air Quality Program. To better assist our clients, we ask that you take a moment to review how we assess indoor air quality. This indoor air quality investigation is limited to the environmental conditions tested for in the building or home at the time of the investigation. We are not responsible for any errors or omissions due to hidden environmental or mechanical conditions. The investigation follows U. S. Environmental Protection Agency suggested protocols and regional practices for hot, humid climates such as Florida. Personal habits and lifestyles can affect a persons sensitivity and reaction to contaminants found indoors, and the advice of your physician should always be followed regarding these situations. The standard investigation made by the Pinellas County Health Department is limited to the following observations and measurements that may impact indoor air quality: A visual walk-through of indoor building areas; Observation of accessible ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) components; Moisture measurements; Indoor and outdoor environmental parameters including relative humidity, temperature, dew point, ammonia, ozone, hydrogen sulfide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, total volatile organic compounds, and particle counts of ambient air; Pressurization comparison between inside and outside of building; Tape lift sampling for known triggers of respiratory ailments. These are interpreted by a P.C.H.D. investigator, no independent laboratory is utilized;

Following the investigation, a written assessment will be mailed within ten working days unless otherwise specified. It is intended as a guide to assist the client with indoor air quality questions or concerns. The evaluation of air quality is not currently regulated and the Pinellas County Health Department has no authority to assist in correcting deficiencies found in the report. Any follow up site evaluations will be charged full price regardless of sliding scale eligibility used for initial site investigation.
