about sports surfaces
The European standard - EN 14904
The practice of competition level
basketball has evolved over two
decades. The needs of athletes and
improved equipment have gone
hand in hand to ensure the quality
of the sports surface and player
performance. For the security of
our athletes, we are particularly
sensitive to criteria such as shock
absorption, slide control and ball
rebound.

Tarkett Spor ts products meet all the relevant standards
for spor ts surfacing, ie. the European EN 14904 standard.
The EN 14904 standard specif ies requirements for multi-
use spor ts surfaces in indoor facilities. This document
has been applicable since 2006 and compulsor y since
Februar y 2008. The EN 14904 standard is the basis of the
EC marking for indoor spor ts floor ings.
This standard both guarantees the safety and
performance of the surface, and also recognizes its
quality. All our vinyl, wood surfaces as well as our
combined solutions with linoleum or vinyl on the top,
have undergone the necessar y laborator y inspection and
have received international accreditation.

Shock absorption
As an athlete impacts a sports surface, the impact is translated
into two resultant forces: one absorbed by the oor and
the other returned to the athlete. Shock absorption rates
the percentage of force reduction that a ooring provides
compared to hard surfaces. This characteristic improves player
comfort and security by decreasing the risk of injury. Diferent
force reduction characteristics may be prescribed for diferent
sports or users.
Friction
This measures a surfaces ability to control the sliding of
athletes on its surface. The surface friction of a sports ooring
must be high enough to prevent premature and uncontrollable
sliding of athletes on its surface, but also low enough to enable
sliding of an extreme force.
Vertical deformation and area deection
Vertical deformation measures the level of vertical
displacement of the oor to support the foot in movements like
running or jumping. Area deection measures how much the
surface of the oor is set into motion during impact, typically
to provide movement for players performing in close proximity
to each other.
Ball rebound
This characteristic measures the oors playing performance.
The surface must absorb the shock of impact but also give a
consistent ball rebound thats the same as the rebound on a
concrete slab.

GreenLay is a unique process invented in 1995 by Tarkett. The main objective was to simplify and
reduce installation time compared to glued installations.
GreenLay is based on two innovative principles:
Online manufacturing process: for more than 20 years, Tarkett Sports has been at the cutting
edge of technology and is still the only manufacturer to use this exclusive process for its thick
vinyl products.
Tarkett Sports has developed a unique coating system on a calendered underlayer doubled
with a stabilizing berglass mesh. This exclusive method ensures a stronger undersurface,
a heavier imprint and an excellent dimensional stability (0.1% according to the EN 434
standard). The stability of this thick vinyl surface requires minimal gluing for installation.
Only 2% of the total surface, typically at the edges requires glue.

Whats Lumaex Duo ?
The Lumaflex Duo is a sports flooring system
with shock absorption based on an 18 mm-thick floor.
This systemcomprises birch plywood boards
with patented supplementary assembly by bonding.
With its twice-as-wide thin strips (2.5 mm),
Lumaflex Duo is quick and easy to install
and thus ensures high level sport performance
at a fraction of the cost.
Birch is one of the most stable species of wood.
In addition, the plywood construction reduces
the products dimensional variations and thus extends

solutions. Varnished and ready to be installed,
these tools provide the perfect homogenous

Ventilated skirtings
During the manufacturing process, spaces
are made which allow cross ventilation of
the wood sub construction. This system of
ventilation is necessary to have some air
moving and helps the wood breathe.

Tarkolay Tarkoflat
Tarkolay solves moisture problems
Moisture in concrete substrates has a high pH that attacks adhesive, which in turn
affects the flooring material. The result is high levels of unhealthy, allergenic and
smelling emissions.
Tarkolay underlayer is ideal when there is moisture in the subfloor. Tarkolay is loose
laid on the subfloor, before a Tarkett floorcovering is bonded onto it. To create a stable
construction with natural ventilation between the flooring and the subfloor. Both
homogeneous and heterogeneous resilient flooring can be glued on top of it.
For a perfect ventilation, the VS100 skirting is highly recommended.
Simpler refurbishment
When it is time for refurbishment, the whole construction is easily lifted out and sent for
recycling. No residues of adhesive or subfloor remain on the back. The new floor can then
be installed immediately, without subfloor work.

With a range of pre-formed skirtings, Tarkett has made it easier than ever before to install
linoleum flooring. In the same material and shade as the flooring, the skirtings can be
selected to coordinate or contrast and provide a perfect professional finish.
LINOLEUM SET-ON SKIRTINGS (LINO SOS)
The classic Set-On Skirting (Lino SOS) is made with an MDF support for easy cutting
and is simply glued to the wall.

Tarkett offers a wide selection of accessories to complete the
appearance of your wooden floor.
Since wood is a living material you should always leave a space an
expansion gap of 1.5 mm per metre of floor, or at least 810 mm
between the floor and walls, thresholds, pipes, steps, fireplaces,
stone floors etc. The expansion gap can be concealed using skirtings,
mouldings and pipe collars.
Tarkett Combistar profiles are an innovative product in the Tarkett
range. The transition profiles come with a veneer surface of real
wood and are very easy to fit. The mounting rail is screwed down
and the profile is attached to the rail. This leaves a lot of room for
flexibility and adjustments so that you can obtain the perfect fit
between the surface and the profile.
Clipstar veneer skirtings are available in a large assortment of wood
species. The system is extremely user-friendly: the skirtings are
simply mounted on clips that are attached to the wall separately.
Matching surface finish
Regardless of whether youve treated your floor with Proteco Lacquer
or Proteco Natura, youll be able to find matching profiles, skirtings
and pipe collars.
