Sanjay Rath, in his book, Jaimini Maharishis Upadesa Sutra, in Adhaya 2, Ch.4,verse 15 states: The Frog (Mandooka) dasa commences from the ascendant or adarsa sign whichever is odd and succeeding dasas will be every third sign. Further, he adds that Manduka means frog and the movement is called Manduka Gati. He states that the period of the signs are : 7 years for moveable signs, 8 years for fixed signs and 9 years for dual or common signs. - Dr. K.N. Rao states that mandook Dasha is applicable to horoscopes in which there are four or more planets (other than Rahu and Ketu) in quadrants or kendras from the Ascendamt or lagna. - These planets could occupy either one or two or three or all the four kendras. Commencement of the dashas as per Dr. K.N. Raos method: - The dasha will start from the ascendant if it is an odd sign and one has to proceed in direct order. - The dash will start from the seventh house if the ascendant is an even sign and one has to proceed in an indirect order. - Mandook means frog. The dasha moves like the leap of a frog to the fourth place. The nature of the frog jump of Mandook dasha: - If the dasha starts from Chara or Cardinal Signs, it first covers the four cardinal signs. The next four signs could be Sthira(fixed) signs or Dwiswabhava (common) signs. - If the dash starts from Sthir or fixed signs, it first covers the four fixed signs. The next four signs could be cardinal (chara) signs or Dwiswabhavi signs. - If the dasha starts from Dwiswabavi (Common) signs, it first covers the four common signs. The next four could either cardinal signs or fixed sings.

The dasha sub-periods will follow the following orders: Savya order- if the dasha order is direct, the sub-periods for all the dashas will follow the same order. Apasavya order: If the dasha order is indirect, the sub-periods will follow the same order. Calculation of dasha periods: Count from the rashi to the lord concerned: Directly in the case of odd rashis Indirectly in the case of even rashis. There is no deduction of 1 year as in the case of Chara dasha. A planet in its own sign will give 12 years. A planet in the 12th house will give 12 years. For Scorpio, Ketu is to be ignored and Mars taken, that too in the reverse direction. If the lord of the house is in the seventh, then take ten years. The Dasha order in this case study: - In the birth chart, the Ascendant is an odd sign and the dasha will follow the direct zodiacal order. - The dasha starts from Dwiswabavi (Common) signs, it first covers the four common signs. The next four could either cardinal signs or fixed sings. - The order of the dasha will be in direct order from Sagittarius: Sagittarius, Pisces, Gemini, Virgo (all common signs) . followed by Capricorn, Aries, Cancer, Libra (all cardinal signs) .. followed by Aquarius, Taurus, Leo and Scorpio (all fixed signs).
